I just went to this class yesterday with my department. It teaches you how to "wreck" a car on purpose that is running from you.

Basically, if a car is refusing to stop, you come up from behind and put your front fender on his rear fender and give it a slight push. The badguy will spin and hopefully your backup officers will close in on him. My department was the first in the U.S. to use this technique and now other department are picking up on it.

Its amazing that it takes very little contact to make a car spin. You see on the track all the time but once you are the guy who spins the other out, you see exactaly what happens. And after we spun someone, we got into the "badguy" car and got spun out ourselves. The fastest we got was only around 45 mph, but man, what a ride!

fergy, I've seen pit moves on "Cops" and live TV with chases in GA. So now YOU know how to use the "Chrome Horn".

Awesome tactic, and I like those "spike strips" too!

Get'um fergy!

Georgia State police was trained by us a couple of years ago I think......we saw videos of those guys doing it at 100+ mph!!! That's crazy!!

So, after you get the bad guys, do they have to go to the big red truck ? ;)

nascarwoman, I think they go directly to JAIL, do NOT pass GO, do not collect $200, and no get out of jail card free. The only big red truck that may be around would be a firetruck or ambulance.

The PIT works great.

It sucks when we have to do it to some rich kid punk and their mommy and daddy beat us to the jail with bail money.
