My umpteen year old printer/copier is needing retirement --- soon.

I'm looking to replace it --- don't need fancy this or that, don't even need color. Just looking for something reliable that prints and copies without jumping through hoops.

Any ideas/recommendations?

I don't believe there's much difference in the lower end printers designed for home use. Get the one that has the least expensive refills. I've had Epson, Panasonic, and now have a HP. They all printed, scanned and copied without a hassle.

Laser, laser, laser.

Personally, I'd rather eat haggis with head cheese for dessert than ever again go within 17 miles of an inkjet printer.

The price is about the same and the toner cartridges do cost a bit more but just price those before making a decision.

The next time someone gripes about the price of gasoline, ask them how much a gallon of printer ink costs.

Good luck.

Wish you lived near here, I have 2 good lexmarks I dont use anymore.

TRL, I picked up a Canon MX432 from Staples not the long ago. Does everything I need and fit my budget, if that tells you anything. Does have that chinese plasticy feel, but so has every other PIXMA I've touched....last one lasted me a good 5 years and I got it from a pawn shop. Still works but it's a printer-only (I upgraded to a PSC)

Bought an HP printer today. Not the cheapest, but not expensive, either. Went with ink jet because with as little printing I do, I just couldn't justify the cost of laser. Here's hoping I can get it plugged in and running without calling for help. :D

Well, this sucks. A USB cable isn't included. Just how in the hell am I supposed to connect with my computer? Guess I have to go back to Office Depot and buy a damned cable. At least, I assume they sell them.
It's also wireless capable, but do they include the little thingy for the computer, NO. I may take the whole damned thing back and start over.

should use the same cable as your old one, TRL? Unless your old printer was an LPT unit, they all use the square plug....unless somebody decided to pull an apple and change everything on us....

Mag, my 16 year old printer used a big old plug that had lots of holes to match the lots of pins on the back of the printer.

Yes, it was an LPT unit, now that I've looked it up.

Can I buy the proper cord?

Most anyplace should have them....ranging from pennies to double digits.

Me, it's 4 wires. As long as they make contact, why should I pay more?

Send that old printer to the Smithsonian please ;)

I'm not sure what you bought but your printer may have wireless built in and if not, some of them use the typical USB cable - which you may have laying around - while many use the USB a/b type cable.

When you said your printer was that old I should have warned you that you'd need a USB cable, the old style is ka-put. When I bought this printer the guy asked if I had a cable. Of course I have a cable. I'm not letting some sales guy talk me into a new cable, sheesh.

Two hours later I went back for the new *&%# !$% cable,:)

Got the proper cable and instructions on how to install the ink cartridge --- the pictures suck -- and the twit yesterday didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.
Hated to give up my old printer --- it did a beautiful job --- just can't get ink for it anymore. It was an old XEROX XK series -- it's color photo printing was breath-taking. Worked like a champ --- hubby got it for free when he hit the 25 year mark at XEROX. Think I got my money's worth out of it.

Now I have to figure out this new-fangled thing.
