BEDFORD, Texas -
A man accused of stabbing his former girlfriend and her 8-year-old son to death returned to Texas on Friday evening after extradition from Oklahoma jail.
Oklahoma authorities detained Cedric Ricks, 38, hours after he killed his ex-girlfriend Roxann Sanchez, 30, and one of her sons Anthony Figueroa in a Bedford apartment.
At first, he fought extradition back to Texas. But after he claims to have been beaten by other inmates in Oklahoma, the double murder suspect changed his mind. Ricks signed the paperwork on Friday to be taken back to Texas.
When Tarrant County Jail officials saw his face, he was taken to JPS Hospital for treatment.
"His face had severe bruising and contusions and scrapes all around his face and his eyes were swollen," said Terry Grisham with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office. "I asked him how did this happen to you and he said it happened to me when I was in jail in Oklahoma. I said so this happened to you while you were in custody in Oklahoma in jail by other inmates? He acknowledged yes."
Grisham said Ricks won't say if they beat him because of the nature of his alleged crime but did ask if he could be by himself.
Bedford police said Ricks stabbed the woman's 12-year-old son. The boy survived, but was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. An 8-month-old child who was also inside the home during the attack was unharmed.
The 12-year-old boy, Marcus Figueroa, managed to call 911 for help after he was stabbed several times in the back of the neck, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
Figueroa tells the dispatcher, "My mom's boyfriend just killed my mom and my other brother". After he was asked where he was hurt, Figueroa responded, "everywhere."
The attorney who was working with Sanchez on her protective order against Ricks is brokenhearted about what happened. "It was just horrifying. I had to go off and be by myself in a room at the courthouse for a while," said Kendall Goetz. "She was a very sweet and kind person. A gentle person, hard working person. She worked in the medical field but you could tell her children were her priority."
