NASCAR has amended its "lucky dog" rule to prohibit the lucky driver who gets a lap back under caution from stopping in the pits to top off his gas tank. The new rule, which allows the highest-running driver a lap or more down to rejoin the lead lap when the caution flag flies, was put in place as part of a rules change that banned racing back to the yellow flag.
But several drivers have delayed the restart by ducking into the pits for a splash of gas and then being unable to take their new position in a timely manner.
The changes will take effect this week at Atlanta.
