I'm not exactly sure when the National Football League went off the rails for me, when watching the games became an exercise in eyelid-propping. It was before this year, but a game this season brought it all home. Why is the NFL overhyped, over-commercialed and downright dull?

Looks as if racing fans aren't the only ones complaining. And yes, I realize it's just one writer's opinion.

Some NFL games will put you to sleep, others are exciting. Just like any other sport out there.

Age is a factor too, most things just ain't as exciting after a few rodeos.

Pro football is, generally, a little more boring for me than college football is, but I still like them both.

The NFL has basically legislated defense right out of the game. You can't hit anybody unless you hit them in about a square foot area of their chest and, even then, you better not hit them too hard. You also can't even breath on a receiver, but they can push off and grab you all over the place. I know that there are a lot of fans who love offense and get excited over a 42-38 game. That's ok once in a while, but when even average Quarterbacks are throwing for 400 yards in a game it's just hard to watch. I love to see some great defense played as well, and that just isn't possible right now.

College football is just a lot more fun to watch for me right now, even though the skill level is much higher in the NFL. They seem to just play with a lot more energy and emotion than the pros do. Although watching my beloved Buckeyes play is kind of like watching amish porn right now. They are just playing some really ugly football.
