Promising American F1 drivers racing in Europe

I was just having a dig about and I was noticing that there are indeed 3 potential American drivers who could realitsicly make it into F1. There is Paul Edwards currently racing in the Nissan world series, hes in his debut year of the series and whilst he isnt doing a Sebastian Bourdais he is scoring points against some former F1 drivers, such as Enrique Bernoldi, and Marc Gene. Whether or not he will make it into F1 or not though I do not know, if he has a good year next year and finishes in the top 4 of the Championship then I dont see a reason why not though.

Next is Towsend Bell, former CART race winner and regular points scorer. Hes with current F3000 Champions Arden International, so far hes done a good job against some very good oppostion and may have scored points at Imola if not for problems, if he can adapt to the car and the differnt style of tracks within 2 years I woudnt mind betting we could see him in a F1 car one day.

Lastly is American Phill Hill, son of former American F1 driver Phill Hill. Hes in his 2nd full year of F3000 at the moment with the Durango team, he had a ok season at Dams back in 2001. for 2002 he was a replacment driver at Durango. He came very close to scoring points a few times but for some reason or another failed to finish the job off. Now hes still at Durango but is doing a much better job, he would have sureley scored points at Barcelona for example after qualifying in the top 8, but he had a DNF.

I just thought Id do this thread to show that there isnt a lack of American talent trying to get into F1. Well ok the USA hasnt got ques of drivers lined up for a shot at F1 but its not as dire as people like to make out. If the current trend continues and USA drivers do make the switch to Europe like they are now doing ever more then I dont think it will be too long until we see another American F1 driver.

One guy I forgot to mention is Phill Giebler, he finished 3rd in the Spanish F3 championship last year, and now hes driving for F3000 team Den Bla Avis, replacing British F3 champion Robbie Kerr. Due to the fact Kerr didnt have the funds to bring to the championship. Still, hes another future talent perhaps, and if he does a good job in F3000 in a few years time we may see him in a F1 car...

I would say Towsend Bell is the best chance for an american driver in F1. So much raw talent for a derserving chance at a ride. But...Is CART the fedder series now? I would say so. Just like MotoGP, where the newly sprung 4-stokes have come into play. Teams are looking in supersport and superbike series around the world rather than their own 250, 125cc 2-strokers. I would be suprised, a very happy suprised I might add, if we see a American in F1 :salute:

I agree, Towsend Bell has the best chance. But he wants to make his move quickly, the guy is 28 after all. Not exactly a ideal age for a F1 driver, let alone one to start a career, seeing as most of the F1 drivers are about the age of 20-25. The question is, if he makes it into F1 would it be with a decent team? If he came in and did well hed be a hailed as a hero, if he didnt impress hed join the long long list of ex F1 drivers..
