For all the fuss being made over Danica finishing 8th in today's Daytona 500, lost in the shuffle of all that is that three drivers from very underfunded teams (Regan Smith, Michael McDowell, and J.J. Yeley) all finished in the Top 10 today, and with a budget probably 1/10th of what Stewart-Haas Racing has. Hats off to you three gentlemen for a great run today.

X2.

I'm sure the extra money at Phil Parsons will allow them to run 1-2 full races. As for Finch and TB, it will allow them to simply show up at 1-2 more races.

I love it that some on the underfunded teams did well. If they didn't make another race , they would have this one to tell their grandkids about . The fact that they love racing as much as they do is really great . I used to pull for guys like Dave Marcis and JD MacDuffie back in the day , hoping to see them beat one of the big teams, just once.

Here's my take on how people feel about S&P's. Some hate it and use it as one more thing to bitch about, many are ambivalent and not sure if it's good or bad and some - like me - just don't care as long they stay the hell out of the way.

So, not everyone hates it, not everyone likes it and many don't give a ****.

Hopefully I've brought a bit of clarity into this muddled mess ;)

Most of these teams were only giving it their all cause the payday for the 500 is huge and they know the big crashes that take out multiple cars gives them a chance to finish higher then normal.

While this might be true to some degree, I must agree with Toy Yoda and offer up congratulations to the efforts of these drivers! I am especially happy for Phil Parsons and his team!

It used to be cool to hope for the underdog , back in the day . Even Alan Kulwicki had 'underbird' on his car . Not so cool anymore , everybody seems to be a fan of one of the top drivers.

I have nothing against the S&Ps but if you think Phil is going to run any more complete races, you've got more confidence in him than I do.

At least they tried, and probably made a good profit off the 500. How long it'll last, who knows.
