Pruett-Montoya Release Statement
The following are statements from Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates drivers Scott Pruett and Juan Pablo Montoya:
Scott Pruett:

“Sunday’s race brought out a wide range of emotions from me. Although I am still upset that I did not win the race in Mexico City or finish 1-2, I do feel a lot better. I spoke to Juan Pablo and he apologized and I do know that what happened was not intentional on Juan’s part. He and I have worked great together in the past – winning the 24 Hours - and I know we will work together in the future. Racing is an emotional sport and that is part of its beauty. I have been in racing for a long time and sometimes these things happen. I have moved on and now just look forward to getting back to racing.”

Juan Pablo Montoya:

“As I said for the last couple of days, I am very sorry about what happened with Scott and I am really disappointed that we did not finish 1-2. I think that we had the best cars in the field and I know Scott, Brian and the whole 41 team deserved better. I feel bad that the whole situation happened and told Scott that I was sorry about it. I completely understand Scott’s frustration as I would feel the same way. I am now just looking forward to Las Vegas.” ...Daily Headlines

Awwwww, ain't that nice? What is real about this is that JPM is a full time driver and Scotty isn't. Scotty wants to drive and Chip is probably the best chance for him to find a ride, if not full time, at least part time. I say that if Scotty was already a full time Busch driver for Chip, or anyone else for that matter, the words wouldn't have been so genial between the two.

Overall, I see this as another racing incident that has been a source os controversy over the years. What makes this case so unusual, if in fact it is unusual, is that the drivers were teammates.

It may have been unintentional, but it definitely could have been avoided. JPM was going on a tear through the field and would have easily passed him, at the latest, in turn 1 on the next lap. You could just watch & JPM was outbraking everybody going into turn one every time.
