SONOMA, Calif. -- Scott Pruett will take over the wheel of the No. 41 Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing at Infineon Raceway this weekend, team officials announced Tuesday.

Pruett will replace Reed Sorenson for the Sonoma event on the road course (entry list). Pruett has made six Cup Series starts at Infineon Raceway, with a best finish of third in 2004.

"It's exciting. It'll be a bit hectic, but any chance I get to do a race in my backyard and be involved with driving the Target No. 41 car, it's going to be good," Pruett said. "I talk a lot about how tough this track is and how fun it is, and until [Tuesday] I wasn't planning to race there this weekend. Now I am."

Pruett will do double duty during the weekend, also competing in his primary car, the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing Lexus in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series, in Lexington, Ohio. Pruett, and his teammate Memo Rojas, currently lead the Daytona Prototype point standings with four victories so far this season.

The No. 41 Cup car is 32nd in owner points and on the verge of falling outside the top 35 -- it is 22 points ahead of the final cutoff spot for cars guaranteed a starting spot each week (owner points).

Not to be on the contrary here, but Ambrose drives the TGR car that is backed by the Wood Brothers. He has tested and driven cars fielded by the Wood Brothers several times this year and last. The car he was testing last month was the #47, but in reality is probably the same car that he will be trying to make the race at Sonoma.

That being said, those ringers have plenty of experience in these cars and if you've seen any of the older road racing races, you surely have noticed that most of the ringers do make the race, albeit many start from the rear.

Hope Boris doesnt have a mexico flashback if him and ambrose start racing side by side lol

what was it he said?...."Its going to cost him a car what he just did" lol

Hey Buck, am I missing something here?

Thought it was the JTG car. This ownership thing gets really confusing at times.

Hey, I hope he wins. Wish he would win a Nationwide race and get Tad back in victory lane again. It has been 14 years since that happened but I still cheer for them.

Hey Guido, just because you worked for Tad doesn't mean that I can't make up new initials. :) Sorry about that. When Tad's team was doing well with Robert, the Buschwhackers were staying at home. I think that Marcos would have won a race or two by now if it were the same situation. I'm keeping my buddy down under up on Marcos' results. Dirk is wondering why the Taz Man isn't doing as well as he thought he would do. My answer is that it's the team, not to take anything away from Tad, or the Wood Brothers for that matter, but when you are a single car team, or even one of the lower tier teams with help from other teams, you have a hard time compteting with those super dogs from Cup.

I agree Buck.

I doubt that TJG would even be in business if they hadn't teamed up with the Wood Bros. Nevertheless, the Megbucks teams have ruined the NWS and have taken away the fun of watching that series. Seems like the trucks are about the only thing that is enjoyable anymore.

Not only do they all start from the rear, many of them finish back there too. Of all the "ringers" I can only say that Pruett has been a threat. Most of the others, not so much...
