I believe this race will see Marlin lose some of his points lead. Then again,I have been saying that since May!

unless JJ JG and MM all have problems I bet we will have a new points leader after this race

Marlin will hold them off again and willcontinue to hold them off untill he walks arcoss the stage.

It could happen that a new points leader will emerge. We've heard that before. What will it take for that to happen??

If one of the three drivers with a mathematical chance to overtake Sterling wins the race and leads the most laps and Sterling does not lead a lap:

If JJ wins, Sterling will have to finish 24th or worse
IF MM wins, Sterling will have to finish 30th or worse
If JG wins, Stelring will have to finish 35th or worse.

Sterlings career average finish at Watkins Glen...17th

lmao what would hapen if they finish first second and third and marlin finishes 39th ? lol

do you think it would be a big deal if JJ got the points lead after the race today??

Johnson has definately impressed in his rookie season, but the second coming of anything he is not. I can't see him winning a cup this year. Don't get me wrong...the boy is talented, and he'll get one before too many years pass. He's already far surpassed my own expectations for him. But I think the cup is a bit out of his reach.

I still say Mark's gonna get it, but somebody forgot to tell Sterling he was supposed to fade by now. He sure as hell ain't driving like someone who ain't supposed to be there. Kinna reminds me of Kulwicki's cup season. He just never went away all year long.

I wonder if sterling wil retire if he wins the cup this year, hes been in nascar for a long time.HS what year was his rookie season???

Sterling won't be retiring anytime soon. I've been to Columbia TN...nothing there to do. :p

Sterlings first WC race was in 1976, but he subbed for CooCoo in that one. His rookie season was in 1985 though he ran a few races in 1984.

No Sterling will not be retiring, he has said so frequently this year.

In the past ten years given todays points standings only one time would the results have changed points leader.

JJ is unproven as a WC road racer, he qualifyed 15th at Sears Point and went out early with a broken rear gear.

The driver with the best shot a taking the points lead away at the Glen is Jeff. But the odds don't favor it.

Correction, Sterling's rookie year was 1983 and he ran very limited schedules for two prior to that.

Geez, hope I'm right this time. I don't have a list of every season's rookies handy. Sorry.

I would love to see jeff win but it seems everytime hes at one of his best tracks he has bad luck, look at sonoma he took the lead just like that and then boom he gears break

Jeff has avoided bad breaks for so much of his career, but the piper must always be paid eventually.

So far this season every driver who makes a run at Sterling seems to suffer the same fate. The racing Gods have a sense of humor too ya know!:D
