"The Dupont team brought the "T-Rex" car to Charlotte for The Winston race in 1998 and it was dominant enough that they were 'invited' not to return with it for the Coca-Cola 600."

I read this on a website and was wondering why the car wasn't "invited" to not race the 600.

The reason why they were invited not to bring the car back is because they took every rule in the book and stretch it as
far as they could with out breaking the rules. there were things they did to the car that should of been illegal but the way the rules were written nascar couldn't do anything to them except to ask them not to bring the car back. not sure but i think some rules were changed after the incident which would have made the car illegal for him to bring back to the 600

I think I remember something to that effect. I concur with all4racin.

I seem to remember something about parts being made out of Titanium. I don't think the rules had been forward thinking enough to realize how this would benefit. Leave it to Dupont. Ever wonder why they say "The Miracles Of Science"?

Nothing like having a car so good that they have to change the rules!:D That car was "awesome":p

No the titanium thing is what they got caught for after he hit the wall at CMS (i think the year before, cost them a $50,000.00 fine for using titanium front hubs)
I want to think the T-Rex had some funky chassis design

That car was an Everham R&D project, it was supposed to be a one time race deal i think. I'm sure that they learned a great deal from that car by stretching all the rules.

Yeah, like what they can and cannot get away with........bonus: no penalty!!:D

wow, quite honestly, i never heard anything on any of that:confused: this is a first for me

How can you be levied a penalty when there is no infraction?

ok read this part in the cheating book by tom jensen, the car had a purpose built chassis, it was all legal then, and evernham invited nelson down befor the race to look at the chassis, everthing was legal so they brought it to the track. the chassis was designed to get heat in the tires fast, it had a suspension system that was built for that reason, i was built for a one time deal, they werent gonna race it again, although evernham complained that making it illegal set back his R&D back a year. nascar made it illegal for 2 reasons, they were the only team with this design and other teams would have to catch up,making less competition, and because of money.

Was that the start of approved and unapproved parts or was that rule in place already and just enforced a little more after that.
