So I've been talking to this guy on Facebook for a while now. I help him out with things on his NASCAR group on there. Anyway I've known him for about 6 months or so, always had great discussions about racing, he seemed to really know what he's talking about... well recently I found out that's because he does lol.... I knew he was in racing... but I found this out yesterday

"In racing I started at the top, and worked my way down. I was the 4th employee at Hendrick Motorsports. I was a tire engineer (fancy name) for 9 years and race day tire carrier for drivers Geoff Bodine, Tim Richmond, Benny Parsons, Ken Schrader, and Greg Sacks. I learned about stock car racing from the legendary Harry Hyde. Then I was Crew Chief for 15 years for the Billmyer Racing Late Model Stock Car, partnered with my dad. Drivers who raced their 1st stock car in a Billmyer Racing LMSC were Todd Bodine - CWTS champion, Timothy Peters - CWTS multiple race winner, and Jimmie Johnson - 6 time Cup champion. Then I Crew Chiefed a K&M Pro Series East stock car until I retired ( disabled). I also worked as a "Technical Consultant" (another fancy name) on the movie "Days of Thunder"."

So I guess my question is has anyone ever heard of Steve Billmyer or Billmyer Racing? I found it really cool that a guy I have been talking a lot of NASCAR with was directly involved in the sport in so many ways. He does a pod cast every week I think and has interviewed drivers and other NASCAR personnel...Chase Elliott was on the show the other day Im pretty sure. He has a couple NNS drivers in the group as well as Buddy Long and a few other media personalities and things like that.

Im not sure if Im asking because I want to know if anyone's heard of him or just because I think its so cool that I know this guy lol .. I think it's awesome how a guy like me, from Canada, never been to a cup race... can use the internet and become friends with someone who was directly involved in the sport for 25 years. The funny thing is there have been times I've been able to answer people questions that he hasn't.

Im just not too sure of the validity of his claims because well after all ... its the internet lol... have any of you heard of him?

Best I can do four you. =====>LINK

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I've got to be honest. I never really paid all that much attention to crew names and the like. I was just taking the opportunity to be a jack a$$. ;)
I already googled it... but its from so long ago I cant find much... that's why I figured I'd see if anyone that's been a fan for that long might have heard of him... 4th employee at HMS.. impressive imo... also for his family's team to once have had Jimmie Johnson as a driver? Crazy

Well it's also a little bit of, "Hey check it out .. I know this guy!" :D lol

I understand what you are saying and it is very cool to know someone like that. I also understand why you might question the validity of his claims. I hope he is the real deal cause you will be able to learn a lot of valuable info from the guy. It can be difficult to have "internet friends" I guess

Until you meet them at a race (Eldora) and find out that they really are good people.

I hope I do. Im looking forward to when I can get down to some races and meet a bunch of people I've talked to for a while. Including some people from here. I know many people online that became lifelong friends with each other after meeting online and meeting up at a race :)

It wouldn't be surprising for a Hendrick employee to have been a "technical consultant" for Days of Thunder. Hendrick was heavily involved in the film, going so far as to build cars for Sacks, Bobby Hamilton, and Hut Stricklin which participated in three Cup races. Robert Duvall's character is based loosely (or perhaps not so loosely) on Harry Hyde.

As for the late model aspect...I'd say it adds up. I vaguely recall the name in question, but I did some googling and this came up.

So it sounds legit to me.

I know a few guys that like to meet women on the internet, none of them have found "life long friends" yet

Oh yea? Well my moms cousin married Bill Wilburn. Boom! (Former Rusty Wallace crew chief) Funny, but pathetic story. My moms uncle died in '02 while Bill was Rusty's crew chief. Bill and my mom's cousin came to the calling hours and funeral cause it was her dad that passed away. I've never seen so many Rusty Wallace jackets in my life! Some people have no shame. Asking for autographs at a funeral home. Smh.

About 13 years ago, I had been talking to this woman online. Not looking to hook up or anything. Chat rooms were just popular then. After about 6 months of talking, we finally decided to meet. She only lived a couple hours away. I've been married to that woman for almost 11 years now.

I got this internet buddy that's a prince in Uganda . Tells great stories about the king and queen and the royal family . He's sending me some of his money soon . Great guy .

Yeah you get to meet good people at these types of events. And have a blast with too.

Damn SB, found someone noteworthy. Dudes done some ****.

It's like finding a silver dollar here in the states... ;)

I've been talking to modified crew chief and drivers, nns drivers and other nascar and other racing employees that he got into this group. Its pretty cool.

Where in Canada are you? We get a lot of Canadians at the Michigan races. They are a fun crowd.

He was a good and loyal employee. When I started the race team, he was a perfect fit. Sadly, as technology advanced, I had to hire a certified engineer to take over his duties.
