Question For Racers

Hello All,
I have a Racing Question for any fellow racers out there that can lend me some opinions. I’m on the fence about this one and I really need a push in the right direction. Anybody else can chime in as well. Please, feel free.

At the track I race at there is a rule that says I can run a GM 350 Crate Engine, which I do. But, the track has instituted a fuel rule and now we have to buy VP 110 from the track. (no biggie) But, VP 110 is a leaded race fuel. Now, in my paperwork for my crate engine it says and I quote “Urgent Warning Use only 92-93 Octane Unleaded Fuel. Do Not use Leaded Racing Fuel. On track performance will be diminished due to slow burn rate”

So….. My question simply put: Is 110 octane bad for a GM 350 Crate Engine? If so, is it worth raising my hand over and maybe sending an email to the track? I mean, you say I can use this motor, but you also say I HAVE to use a fuel that’s isn’t good for it? Sigh….

Thanks All.

It's their rules...They probably have that rule to discourage people from using the crate motor. Good luck to what you decide to do.

GM has 3 crate 350's for racing, which one do you have? I'm not a engineer but the higher the octane the faster the burn rate so the slow burn rate comment puzzles me.

How many others are using the crate? Rather then sending a email I'd request a sit down with the rules committee. Bring that paperwork and as many other racers using a crate with you. Good luck.

They've been using crates and vp 110 at my local track the past few years and this is the first I've heard this. Again good luck.

I do not see how lead will cause a slower burn rate. When the small block Chevy was first introduced the octane rating of pump gas was around 100 and it was leaded
