How much of a delay is the scanner feed from the televised race? I’ve been thinking about dropping the scanner option on their website in favor of the mobile app but I’d like to hear some reviews now that the season is over. Is it worth it?

For me, the mobile app delay is looooong...almost 45 seconds to a minute. Both on my iPhone and iPad. In fact, the iPad Raceview graphics (the one that looks like a video game) is real time, but the audio is on a long delay. So it's pretty annoying that you can't really use the two together if you're looking to make sense of it.

NASCAR.com radio feed is pretty much real time, usually even ahead of the television broadcast.

The only way I could ever recommend the app is if you're using it in a vacuum (not paired with any other visual source.) I personally love it, because it allows me to walk around the house, or go out places (like the gym, etc) and constantly be tapped into the team's radio. In that sense, the delay doesn't matter.

That pretty much settles it. I always run the scanner feed from nascar.com alongside the television feed and RaceBuddy when available. The scanner is about 10 seconds ahead of me Dish feed and a few seconds ahead of RaceBuddy. I guess I just stick with what I’ve been doing.

Yeah, if you're looking for a multimedia experience, you're better off with NASCAR.com. When I watch at home, I have the TV on (muted), my laptop pumping the team's channel, and my iPad showing the Raceview (video game look) tracking the car at all times. The Raceview app really is awesome. In fact, teams will actually have that on a computer screen in their pit stands. Sometimes it spaces out, and the car looks like it flies off the track, or drives through other cars, or does something goofy enough to make my heart skip a beat or two at home. But usually, it's pretty dead on.

It's possible NASCAR works to fix the app delay for 2014. I'll let you know the first time I use it next season.

I've had raceveiw since it became available and I like it, so I asked a raceview tech about those glitches a couple of years ago and was told that the signals are collected and rebroadcast by a helicopter and there are several things that cause the interference, weather, switching choppers to refuel, fast speeds on a short track etc. I don't know if that has changed but that's what I was told then.

I used to subscribe to RaceView up until the past two years. The scanner is really all I need/want. Next year, WiFi is to be available at all NASCAR tracks and I thought about taking the iPad instead of the scanner, using the app. Looks like I am still better off just taking the scanners in.

I tried the WiFi at every track we went to the last few years that said that they had it but with a laptop and the only place I was ever able to connect was next to the media center at the smaller tracks and in the infield near pit road at the larger tracks. I asked each time at customer service and was told those were the only places that it worked. Hopefully they will make it easier to connect to next year.

It's really bad. I wouldn't do it again, not to mention the app is very buggy and unreliable. Keep the scanner option DP!
