I am new to Nascar and I was wondering what is the difference between winston cup and busch series?

The Busch series is the minor league to CUp. The cars have a short wheel base, but are basicly the same other than that. The drivers have less time behind the wheel on speedways than Most Cup drivers do. There are some BGN drivers that have been in the BGN and are just fine runnign there and not cup such as Lajoie, Keller(running a Chase2 cup car this year in Cup) and others.
I know that was not alot but hope it helped some. Welcome to the Board :waver:

The busch series say, is a stepping stone for Winston Cup. The Craftsmen Truck series is a stepping stone for Busch. The busch series runs many of the same tracks the cup guys do so sometimes you'll see "buschwacker", or guys from Winston Cup enter into a busch race for more race time and experience. The busch races are only about hafe as long as the Cup races.

I may be wrong, But I think the Busch cars are lighter and have less horsepower.

Ahh we have only scratched the surface my friend. Welcome to the board.

can anyone recomend anything to help me get up to speed on nascar?

And remember meathead[!] those cars with the little blue ovals on front are the ones you want to cheer for! :)

Just kidding[not really].

Welcome aboard and some of the folks on here are the most knowledgable Nascar fans on the net!

Just root for the 24 car and you will be disappointed a lot less often :p

But seriously...It just takes watching a few races. After a while you start figuring out what strategies they are using. Such as...

Car set-ups (making adjustments in tire pressure, chassis adjustments, track-bar adjustments, ect.). These are attempts to make the car easier to handle, especially in and out of the turns.

Pit Strategies...When to pit and what to do when you do. ie. taking two tires or four, taking gas only (done obviously to shorten your time spent in the pits)

etc.

Welcome, meathead. Continue to ask questions. Collectively, the folks here have most of the answers. The ones we don't know we make up (lol). Reading the threads here should also help the knowledge base grow. Again, welcome to our little gathering.

www.jayski.com is a good site as well. Yes its alot of news and rumors but there is also alot of genral info on the pages to the left!

Howdy meat,

As pointed out, there is not a whole lot of difference between the Cup cars and the Busch cars.

A Busch car has a 5 inch shorter wheelbase and weighs 100 pounds less. The motors (engines if you're fussy) are idnetical with two exceptions. The Busch cars are allowed to run a roller tappet cam and the Cup cars cannot. The Busch cars run a 390 carb and the Cup cars a 750. Costs the Busch cars a few horsepower.

Not a whole lot of difference in speed anymore at most tracks. At Rockingham where both series will run this weekend the Winston Cup track record is 158.035 and the Busch track record is 156.368

There is one very large difference. The money on either side of the start/finish line is significantly less in Busch.

Welcome to the board and the sport.

I suggest watching races is the best way to learn about the sport. But don't just stop at Winston Cup and Busch. Go to your local tracks, whether it's dirt or paved, major series or just local Saturday night series. You'll learn more through your eyes at a track in one night than you will reading what everyone else thinks in 6 months.

Oh, and if it ends with an "Earnhardt", avoid it.
