Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

~Calvin Coolidge~

Making money selling manure is better than losing money selling musk.
- Egyptian Proverb

Security is mostly a superstition.
It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men
as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer
in the long run than outright exposure.
Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

~Helen Keller

When Anne Sullivan repeated this back to her, HK said "What? I just can't see it..."

You know I'm going to burn in hell for saying stuff like that don't you...

"Don't wish it was easier; wish you were better.
Don't wish for less problems; wish for more skills.
Don't wish for less challenges; wish for more wisdom." -- Jim Rohn

Maybe that will make up for the HK comment...

Here is a Thought for the Day:

Sit at the feet of the masters long enough, and they'll start to smell.

Books are useless! I only ever read one book, “To Kill A Mockingbird,” and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the color of his skin…but what good does *that* do me?
A gold star to anyone that can give the author...

Not the author of the book...who said the quote...
Now Lee said some good stuff but I've not seen where this was attributed to him.
And, just so everyone knows what they're playing for...

I know I know! It's from The Simpsons, it's one of Homer's famous quotes.

Worded poorly!

Homer is NOT an author! Homer is an ACTOR.. If you wanted an actor repeating what was written by the author.. perhaps you should have worded your question differently..
In any event I would have failed the test as I have never watched any of the Simpsons..

Actually it is a stretch to call Homer an actor. He's a cartoon character. Now perhaps the person that does his voice could be called an actor but then we never see him.
As to the wording, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.

Seeing ourselves as others see us would probably confirm our worst suspicions about them.
