One if my first racing memories is riding my bike up to my granddad's house to watch the one minute or so footage of the '60 Southern 500 on the evening news. I still remember seeing Buck Baker win it with a flat tire. I was nine years old then and hadn't grasped the idea that you needed a favorite to watch a race. By the time I did it was Fireball all the way. I never got to see the convertibles run or meet him but meeting his widow Doris and the builder of his real cars, Smokey Yunick, made up for a lot. Thank you for allowing me to share these memories with you.
