Ol' SuperTex lead a parade of Mopars into the top six slots in 1964's Firecracker 400. Like Jerry Clower's Marcell in the tree with the wildcat, Ford hollers for Bill France to shoot that Hemi down and Mr. France answers, "I can't do that Mr. Ford, I might hit you." Then Mr. Ford says, "Well then shoot up in here among us, 'cause one of us got to have some relief."
But when the rule change "shooting" that started at the beginning of the '65 season and went through most of the '66 season was over it seemed that the only thing Mr. France succeeded in hitting was his own foot. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.
