hi, the race ends when all cars in race have finished the laps or is there another condition that put an end to the race?
When the checkered flag is waved for the leader, the race is over. It can be when all scheduled laps have been run or if weather/darkness becomes a factor. However, if the race is not past the halfway mark, the race can be postponed and completed when the weather clears.hi, the race ends when all cars in race have finished the laps or is there another condition that put an end to the race?
I may be wrong, but I think the racing continues until the last car running on the lead lap crosses the finish line after the winner crosses.

I looked breifly for clarification but I believe that every car on the track when the leader takes the checkered flag must cross the finish line in order for the race to be over. Lap-down cars can still be racing for position until they take the checkered flag, no?
The exception to this is if the yellow flag is shown to the field at the same time as the checkered flag. In NASCAR rules, the field is "frozen" whenever a caution flag is thown.
No just lap down cars, which aren't usually racing for position anyway. Everyone keeps racing until they cross the line after the race winner.
so,if a7th place car[on lead lap]passes 5th place before fl,after leader,he gets 7th not 5th?A lap-down car won't be competing with the race winner, obviously, but if there are two or more cars racing for, let's say, 28th position, one or more laps down to the leader, aren't they allowed to race to the finish line for that position?
I would think so but...

thx, what I thoughtI think the driver would get 5th if he gained 2 positions before reaching the finish line. The field is not frozen when the winner takes the checkered flag.
