okay, i understand the excitement old-old bristol created. usually from "racing incidents".

then the old "new configuration" provided excellent side-by-side racing.

but then there were empty seats...

so we now have a new "old" configuration. and everything i've heard is it is back to one lane on the bottom.

(don't know who's interview i heard, but after a tire test, tony stewart said he'd rather start 17th on the bottom than on the outside pole)

really? is that what fans want?

do the majority of fans want to see a racer create drama by pushing and shoving his way to the front rather than watch two professionals cleanly race each other door to door for position?

i just don't get it.

maybe bruton was right and fans want artificially created drama....

if that is what this sport turns into i will become much less of a fan.

thoughts and opinions?

Yes. There literally dozens on smaller series that offer "professional" clean driving that's very competitive. Sports car racing, Vintage car racing, Chump car, blah blah blah. It's also very boring to watch unless you are an hardcore enthusiast.

I personally have a track car daily driver, and a project car. That makea me a extreme auto enthusiast. Even I can't watch clean NASCAR racing for long because it's obvious that they are not trying that hard until the end of the race.

Bruton is 100% right. NASCAR fans want to be entertained. They can get professional driving anywhere. They want action, drama, and excitement.

There's more contact in a two hour sports car race than there is in an entire Sprint Cup season.

YES YES AND HECK YES!!!

The main thing is, and I've said it before: Bristol used to have character. Almost every track in the circut is a multi groove track that you can pass with ease at. Bristol was different. Now, it's like watching a race at Dover or Homestead -- same style of racing provided by the reconfiguation designed to please the drivers just a smaller track.

They can race hard and clean and still put on a good show, but they don't do it. Quite frankly, half of it is the drivers would rather finish 14th and collect points than try to win. The other half is the track was designed to appease the guys who would rather ride around and finish 14th rather than race hard for positions.

^This:)

I am agreeing with you at a alarming rate tonight

Go take some Tylenol because you obviously have a fever. :D

I watched the modified and truck race tonight and it was dang great racing. There was two lanes so the racers could pass and there was some bumping as well.

They were both great races. Don't get me wrong I still like Bristol and the racing is good. It's just not unique as it was.

If by "UNIQUE" you mean a race with 25 caution periods and a ton of pissed off drivers then you are correct.

That's not what I consider "Good Racing".

Unique? Maybe. But the truest definition of the word "UNIQUE" is "ONE HORSE' - and it is the ultimate insult, derived from the term "One Horse Town".
UNI + EQUE

Based upon what I saw in tonight's Truck Race, my fears about how effed up the rassin was gonna be at the New-Old Bristol have been set aside.

I cannot wait for Friday and Saturday Night!!!

What you consider good racing and what I consider good racing are different things. It's well known that you prefer long, drawn out snorefests where everyone rides around in parade formation over hard racing.

Well, I must say I'm glad the changes didn't narrow the groove as much as I expected. I like both styles of racing (with an edge to the wide grooved racing), but was worried the changes would get rid of both (too narrow for good side-by-side racing; too wide for bumping and running). Glad we still have one style of racing and not neither.

I bet there are a lot of people who liked the old style of racing that are pissed at Bruton for claiming to bring back old Bristol with these changes.

Time will tell how and if the Cup cars will react to the new surface.

It's not the cars or the track, it's the drivers. They want to ride around for 500 miles and, if they have to race hard, they whine about it like little girls. I'm personally getting tired of it.

I think this race is 500 laps.

Wow. What's with all of the Bristol love all the sudden? Not all that long ago many fans were complaining to no end that they now hate the racing there. It's probably do to the limited exposure that the truck series gets. The fans that were watching last night were primarily the die hard race fan. It was two and sometimes three wide all night long last night. Bruton's changes had little affect on what I saw and thankfully so. Being there, I don't really know how that translated to television but it played out well from my seat.

I'm really looking forward to these next two races here this weekend.

Your low tolerance level for whining girlie men is amusing to say the least

OK, gentlemen, let's keep the personal out of the thread. Back off the name calling --- address the post, NOT the poster.
I found the truck race highly entertaining --- but the trucks are always fun to watch.

I guess that I was in a bad mood yesterday and Andy Gump's Dumps sent me over the edge.
I apologize.
I have deleted my posts.
I have also blocked Andy Gump.

I wonder why nascar.com and Jayski's have said nothing at all about the affect, or lack thereof, of the new(?) track surface :idunno:

I don't know if I'd go quite that far...but you are right that if the drivers aren't complaining something is wrong.

And let's face it, if I'm Bruton and I make the drivers happy, but see my waiting list dissappear and then empty seats after that, I'm thinking (what was I thinking?)

Heck, I remember ten years ago or so asking my older brother (a fairly well-connected attorney in St. Louis) if he had any connections to get me a ticket to see the Bristol night race. It was akin to getting Masters tickets there for awhile.

Or tickets to Lambeau Field...

And I agree with your assessment, Tony. However, I must say that I prefer racing like we saw in the Truck Race last Wednesday (83 fabulous hotly-contested green-flag laps) to a race that has 17 cautions due to one driver giving another driver the old Chrome Horn over and over and over again!

Yeah...I remember Mark Martin calling it a "High Speed Demolition Derby" ...but the tickets sold like hotcakes

Of course Mark Martin has been mistaken at Bristol before:

:biggrin::XXROFL:

Seems to be alot of blocking going on here all of a sudden. So, I'd like to make it known that I have no problem with anyone blocking me :D

I've tried blocking Fender but he stalked my address and keeps sending me flowers and a can of Pringles - what the hell is up with that?

Did I forget to send the crack again?

How do you even know how much blocking is going on? That's strange.

I remember last year there were some on tv who were woried about the dropped attendance at Bristol and I'm sitting there thinking, sheesh are you kidding me? There are still 100,000 at a 1/2 mile track that's more then were at the freakin super bowl, what's the problem? And I still feel that way there are always going to be up's and downs but Bristol will always draw at least 100,000 and always puts on a great show.

Some people will never be happy...That's just who they are and can't we change them

OK, Ok, ok...you can put 160,000 paying customers in a sport venue (you have before). Let's say they average spending $50.00 apiece (probably low)

So that is about $8million in revenue...or...you put 100,000 in the stands....that is about $5million. 8-5=3million$ you just lost.
