Jeff Hammond: Mike Ford does not have Denny Hamlin's back after what happened at Phoenix.

Sounds like the Gibbs crews are sick and tired of being thrown under the bus.

I dont blame him if hes not behind Denny. You do your job to the best of your ability and some kid throws you under the bus on TV? Once ok you talk with the young man and explain to him whats up. More then that and then you starting loosing your motivation to help the kid. Mike is pretty talented he can find work.

Worst thing JR ever did was invite him to Daytona, and introduce him to the "in" crowd.

Anyone want to explain what happened?
A hunch would be that after Phoenix, Hamlin had a meltdown because of fuel mileage, and crusified his crew chief for it, infront of the media.

You know how it is. When we win, we're awesome, and when we lose, my crew chief sucks.

A far cry from how gracious Stewart was when he ran out of fuel at New Hampshire.

Seems to me it is another case of lack of Maturity on Hamlins' part.

Ahh k. See, this is why I don't think Hamlin will win The Championship this year. He lacks the maturity to keep his emotion in line. The same goes for Mike Ford.

I'm gonna take the other side on this one. I don't blame Denny. When they win or they run good, he praises his crew chief, when the crew chief messes up he will say that too. I mean come on, 12 laps short, that could have been avoided by doing an earlier pit stop. Denny drove his butt off and the crew chief dropped the ball on that one.

Yea, but you don't throw your crew chief under the bus in public either. I mean if I was a crew chief and my driver did that to me, to the national media, I'd say "You know what, **** you, you can race by yourself at Homestead."

This is one of those things you deal with in private, not out in public in front of everyone.

Theres alot on the line, to go and execute a public flogging on the man thats trying to make it happen for you.
Perhaps Denny is trying to outdo Kyle. Some sort of in-house competition going on there......:D:D

You are right, there is, and letting your driver run out of fuel isn't helping any.

It was an honest mistake. Denny should have said "You know what, my crew did their best, and I thank them for it, and I wish we could have won, but what are you going to do?"

Then you deal with the problem in private. Want to know why Johnson and Knaus work well together? It's because they have that trust, and they have that communication skill. Johnson trust Knaus, and vice versa.

When a driver throws a crew chief under the bus like that, he's basically saying that he doesn't trust his crew chief.

This is going to be a huge factor in Homestead.

Hamlin still came away with the point lead - Ford did his job.
