Race Scanners

I wasn't sure were to put this thread, this seems as good a place as any.

So the wife agreed to let me get a scanner for an anniversary present. Our first anniv. is on May 29th, guess where we will be spending the day, lol.

I need some feed back on which scanners are the best for the buck. I was hoping some folks here could give me better reviews than the retail sites.

Thanks in advance,

i aint an expert on scanners but i would look at Racing Electronic scanners(if you havent already) they got some good scanners they got a couple of them under $150, how much you willing to spend?

I've got a Bearcat from Racing Electronics that I've had for several years. We've got a splitter with two headsets and we use it weekly at our local track. Only a 100 channeler, but it works great. One caveat...it uses expensive batteries and while they can be charged easily enough, they will wear out. That happen to us when we were sitting in the stands waiting for the race to start at Richmond. The only battery seller for that scanner was outside the fence and I wasn't going to go through all that again to get back in. You can find great scanners that will use AA batteries and then you can keep a lot of spares in the bag, plus, they aren't as expensive but last a long time.

Looking for one in the $250 and under category. AA batteries most definately. Range is a big factor, since I mostly go to Indy, Michigan, Talladega and Daytona. Will check the link after some shuteye.

I have a Bearcat, also. As far as I'm concerned its the best. I have the big one, with 200 channels, but you really don't need one that size. I have 2 sets of rechargable batteries --- one set will last a whole weekend, but I have a backup if needed.

One thing you must choose carefully is your headset. I heartily recommend one with a separate volume control. Also, I prefer the cloth band over the head with the clamping machanism behind your head --- its much easier to wear for long periods.
