races on cable or sat

Whats the advantage to watching, or airing a race on cable or satalite, instead of regular tv? (for the fans, nascar, or the networks)


I would think they would get more coverage and better ratings with it being on regular tv.
 
It is a great way for the networks to promote their cable stations. TNT and FX reap the benefits when airing a Winston Cup or BGN race. Generally the cable channel broadcasting the race that weekend is usually the highest rated network at that time. Ratings=Money
 
Our local news station showed the races half way threw the season. But I like it better on tnt (except I miss D.W.) bc now I can watch qualifying (I never caught it on SPEED, or did they even show it on there) But I like it on tnt.
