Rain could cause qualifying troubles at Texas: With rain in the forecast for Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, eight teams are hoping the forecast is wrong and qualifying doesn't get washed out. According to the National Weather Service Web site, there is a 70% chance of rain Friday in the area of the track. In addition to the top 35 drivers being locked in, these drivers would make the race: #83-Brian Vickers (2006 race winner at Talladega in the #25), #44-Dale Jarrett (past champion), #21-Ken Schrader (36th in owner points), #10-Scott Riggs (37th), #22-Dave Blaney (39th), #49-Mike Bliss (40th), #15-Paul Menard (43rd) and #78-Kenny Wallace (44th). #4-Ward Burton is 41st in owner points, but in the Morgan-McClure Motorsports deal to gain Phoenix Racing's [#09 Chevy] points from Daytona, the team is considered to have attempted to qualify for five of the six events this year because Phoenix skipped California before that deal was completed. After the top 35, teams with the most attempts have priority in making the field once past winners and past champions are placed on the grid. Those drivers who would go home would be Burton, #00-David Reutimann, #33-Scott Wimmer, #34-Kevin Lepage, #36-Jeremy Mayfield, #37-John Andretti, #55-Michael Waltrip and #84-AJ Allmendinger.
