Country singer Randy Travis faces a charge of driving while intoxicated and retaliation against a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper after he was found naked at the scene of a wreck on a Grayson County road, authorities said Wednesday.
Travis, 53, was released Wednesday morning from the jail in Sherman, about 60 miles north of Dallas.
The country singer refused all sobriety tests, but a search warrant was obtained and a blood specimen was taken. Test results are pending.
The wreck occurred about 11:28 p.m. Tuesday on Farm Market 922 near Clover Road west of Tioga, which is Travis's hometown.
According to DPS reports, Travis was driving a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am that went off the road and hit several barricades in a construction zone before coming to a stop.
Travis, who troopers noted showed signs of intoxication, was alone in the car at the time of the wreck, authorities said.
"He didn't have any clothes on," said DPS Trooper Mark Tackett on Wednesday.
At some point, Travis made threats against the troopers at the scene.
Grayson County authorities said that Travis threatened to shoot the officers, but no weapon was found.
At the Grayson County Jail in Sherman, Travis was issued a paper suit.
Grayson County Sheriff Keith Gary said Travis was treated just like anyone else who might be brought into the jail.
It is Travis' second intoxication arrest this year in North Texas.
Travis in February was charged with public intoxication after being spotted in a vehicle parked in front of a church in Sanger, about 20 miles from Tioga.

Country superstar Randy Travis allegedly walked naked into a North Texas convenience store to buy cigarettes, touching off a bizarre series of events that ended with him being charged with threatening to shoot a state trooper, police said.

According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, Travis was arrested Wednesday following a single-car crash on Farm-to-Market Road 922 at Clover Road near Tioga.

Right before the crash, a Pilot Point convenience store clerk called 911 to report that a man had walked into the store without any clothes on and asked for cigarettes. When asked how he was going to pay for them, the man left aggravated and empty-handed.

I can think of all sorts of reasons you might have a few drinks need a pack a smokes and get into a wreck while driving necked.......but if there's no naked lady involved it shoots them all down ;)

Plano police say troubled country singer Randy Travis got into a fight in the parking lot of one of North Texas' largest churches.

A police spokesman confirms Travis and another man were fighting in the parking lot of Prestonwood Baptist Church at 6801 W. Park Blvd. late Thursday night.

Both men were given a citation for simple assault, but not arrested, the spokesman said. The citation carries the same legal weight as a speeding ticket.

TMZ is reporting that Travis was "extremely intoxicated" and was taken to a hospital after the citation. FOX 4 could not confirm any hospitalization.

The fight was reportedly over a woman, according to TMZ. However, police did not confirm the reason for the fight.

This is the third time this year Travis has tangled with the law in North Texas.
The singer was arrested on a DWI charge on August 8 near his home in Tioga, in Grayson County. Travis had crashed his Pontiac Trans Am into some construction barriers on FM 922.
During the arrest he allegedly threatened the DPS troopers who found him, and was also charged with retaliation.
Travis was also arrested in February for public intoxication in a church parking lot in Sanger. He was behind the wheel of his car, but not driving, police said at the time.

A truck registered to country singer Randy Travis was found Saturday morning tipped over and abandoned in a field in Frisco.
Police said Saturday evening that they are investigating how the truck ended up near the corner of Lebanon Road and Legacy Drive but haven’t been able to contact Travis, who has been involved in several police reports this year.
Travis’ lawyer, Larry Friedman, said he also doesn’t know who left the wrecked Chevrolet truck behind a Walmart Neighborhood Market, but it wasn’t his client.
The vehicle is a ranch truck that Travis rarely used, Friedman said.
“He hasn’t been in that truck or seen that truck in about three months,” he said. “This has nothing to do with Randy whatsoever.”
Friedman said that a ranch hand had been using the truck and that Travis will follow up to try to find out how it ended up with its windshield shattered, its roof dented and with a taillight hanging off.
No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the truck.
It was found less than two days after Travis received a misdemeanor assault citation after an incident in a Plano church parking lot.
Police said Travis is suspected of a simple assault after he stepped into a confrontation between his girlfriend and her estranged husband outside Prestonwood Baptist Church.
Travis’ citation was for a Class C misdemeanor, which police compared to a traffic ticket.
Travis was also arrested in Grayson County on Aug. 7 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Authorities said they found him naked and smelling strongly of alcohol in a wrecked car.
He also received a public intoxication citation in Denton in February.

MARSHVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say the younger brother of country music singer Randy Travis is in custody for methamphetamine possession.
Union County sheriff’s deputies say David “Butter” Traywick of Marshville was arrested last Thursday along with his wife during a raid at the family farm. Authorities identified the 49-year-old as the brother of the 53-year-old Grammy winning recording artist, who’s recently had his own legal problems.
Travis, who lives in North Texas and changed his name early in his music career, has been arrested at least three times in the last year.That includes an August arrest for driving while intoxicated, wrecking his car and then laying nude in the middle of a highway.
Traywick’s arrest report says he is suspected of cooking meth in a makeshift lab in the woods near his home.
 
What a mess. He always seemed like a pretty good guy, but of course you never know what somebody like that is really like. They usually project a carefully crafted image.

I really hope he gets some help. His brother needs some help too, but unfortunately it looks like he will be going to prison for a while.
