Rate Chicago Cup

Not a whole lot different than than I'd expect from another 1.5er. Unfortunately not all races can have the side by side that we'd all like to see but again, I guess I'm easily entertained.

My guy fought his way up to a top 10 which was cool. Especially after having to start in the rear when he caught 3rd gear instead of neutral after his qualifying run and had to make that engine change.

I'm still an anyone but Johnson fan so I was happy not to see him in victory lane although he still has me scared that I'm going to see #6. It was equally fun seeing him whine about Keselowski's entry back on to the track coming out of turn #2 late in the race.

I thought it was impressive to see Kenseth maintain the positions that he did while running without the right front shock. If that guy comes back to win the whole thing, many will be talking about what he did yesterday.

Kasey continues to impress. Great run for him.

Denny, let the head games begin, Hamlin predicted a victory for this weekends race in Loudon ala Joe Namath. I think he may have been inhaling the fumes from his empty gas tank as he was typing that out.

For the most part I thought that it was pretty cool to see the elite finish at the top of the pylon. These next nine should be pretty good.

Didn't see the first part but did see after lap 89. Thought the deal between Jimmy and Brad was classic old time stuff where legends came from. My impression was Keselowski was playing with Jimmy until the last pit stop and from there on it was game on taking Jimmy and Chad to school! Gotta love Keselowski. I hope he nver loses his manner of speaking to the press. He is as honest and forthright as any driver. Even surpasses Stewart. Sorry to see a bad day for Jeff.

BTW dpkimmel2001, really like your post recap! Good job and figured it is time to point it out!

How many 1.5 tracks are in the Chase? Why wont NA$CAR challenge it drivers during the Chase? They need some road courses in the Chase.

Sounds like I didn't miss much of a race. The winner was a 10 tho.

I thought it was a 1.0 for most of the 1st part. Nothing more boring than watching JJ run away with it. But after Kez and the Penske team made that last pit stop and came out in front of JJ, I gave it an 8. It was worth it to see Knaus get off his throne and cry like a baby to Nascar Officals because someone beat the 48.

That was a highlite for sure. I took Brads move as his way of telling JJ he wasn't going to let him pin him down on the apron. Brad moved up and forced JJ to do the same, while JJ had hoped to be alongside Brad at turn exit when he could have given BRAD some room. JJ actually lost momentem when he moved behind Brad when he had the whole high line to himself. He was showing his displeasure, so Brad is surely satisfied that he got him rattled by making such a small demand of JJ.

It's funny how HMS is preoccupied with what Brad says and does. They are still bringing up Brads trick rear comments. JJ did it during his postrace comments. "lately, a lot has been made of things HMS is doing, but that hasn't made a differance". Really? That was the car in question, and you dominated and won at Indy. Not this week.

Not a Jimmie fan at all and I sure hate defending the guy. You weren't one of the ones taking the nap during the race yesterday, right. Jimmie led 172 laps yesterday. Far more than Keselowski. I almost as happy as you to see Keselowski beat his a$$ but Jimmie Dominated that race yesterday. That was with a capital D. True, not the win but I have to say I think he's right when he said it really didn't make a difference. 2nd, 3rd, & 8th among the HMS entries that didn't smack the wall? That's pretty good IMO.

Hmmm, I think you and JJ were napping when Brad talked about NOT having the trick rear end JJ had for his win at the brickyard. After nascar came out and set the rules, Tim Cindrick said their chase cars would have the feature. Now Brad smoked that very car at the end of the race, pulling out to a 3 second lead while cruising to the win. Whenever JJ started to close, Brad broke off a lap 3 10th's quicker than JJ.

That sure as hell is a huge difference.

I watch Kez closely. He would rather lay back and save his stuff than race hard for the lead early in the race. When he has the lead, he'll try to hold it as long as he can. For the first time I can remember, Penske has actually stepped up their equipment for the chase. Chad said that 48 was so good, they warehoused it after the brickyard so they could save it for the chase. For the #2 to run faster on 2 tires while that dominate car had 4 is no small feat, and it sure got Chad's attention. He knew he HAD to take 4 at the end, because it was their only chance.

See, I wasn't sleeping. :D

they never showed that fast 4 tire pit stop by the #2. I'm wondering if they did some work to the gas can, because that's usually the hold up on a 4 tire stop. Maybe Paul figured a faster routine, but that team has been beating the 48 a lot lately.

Jimmie Johnson's second-place finish marked the first time the chassis he drove had been defeated this year. He drove that chassis to wins at Dover and Indianapolis earlier this season.
