Rate the 56th Daytona 500

race: 9/10
winner: 10/10...dale jr did a hell of a job....and who ever worked on that 88 car should be proud....that car was bad fast....

9.5 just because of the rain delay. Lots of excitement and kept me on the ede to the end. So happy right now. Go Junior!!!

Race 9.8
Winner: 11

Congrats Jr.!!!
NASCAR needed this tonight. Not just Jr. winning, but the racing was the best since 03-06ish. That 1/2 inch more spoiler did wonders.

Agreed Andy. Thats two 500s in primetime now since 2011 and have been a huge success.

NASCAR wins today folk'

The race overall = 10.
Winner = 10.
I'm really happy Jr. won and really happy HMS is looking strong.

10

Mostly 'cause of Jr coming out on top and the race being run in prime time.

Also agree with those who are petitioning for this race to start in the daytime and end at night. Think you're on to something.

Cannot wait for next week.
Got my flags ready to fly.

10 outta 10, as amazing a plate race as I've ever seen.

The rain delay was the equivalent to the Super Bowl Blackout. The race changed drastically after that.

10/10
Awesome racing with rush of trying to beat the rain. The lack of parading around after the delay was a welcome shift! I agree that night racing in Daytona is awesome and how it should be run every year.

Good race from what I saw. need to rewatch it. .

9 for the finish. NOT a Jr fan but loved his reaction.

Ill give it an 8

The racing was pretty good, better then we have seen in a long while.

It was fun to see JR so elated, dont really care for him as a driver, didnt care if he won or not, but it was a fine ending.

The rain delay was brutal and is the exact reason why you cannot have the race start anywhere close to primetime. If you get any kind of significant weather the race doesnt get finished on Sunday and moves to Monday. Nascar doesnt want to do that. Having it start at 1EST allows for the delay.

For me today was special because my 2 1/2 year old son seemed to really understand and take a serious interest in a driver and the actual racing. HE noticed Jamie McMurray in the intros and yelled "thats my guy, the french fry guy!" All race long he was looking for my guy(Larson), his Mom's guy(Ky. Busch) and "the french fry guy". His excitement as he tried to locate the #1 car and the Golden Arches was hilarious. He would be screaming out "he's gonna win!" Im glad he found a love for the sport today and immediately said he wanted to go see the racecars. SO we are looking into Fontana at the end of March. We usually hit Sonoma, but I think it will be SoCal this year. Very cool moment for me as a Dad today because I can remember enjoying the races with my Dad as a kid.

This is the best story I've heard in awhile! Congrats man!

Yeah its pretty cool. Now next week he could show zero interest in the damn sport because 2 1/2 year olds are schizos, but I think we have him a hooked pretty good, lol. After the race he wanted to know why they didnt talk to Jamie. Lol. I had to explain to him that when you finish outside of the top 10 you usually dont get a lot of TV coverage. I mean how do you explain that to a kid that just wants to see more of Jamie McMurray after the race. So we went to YouTube and then he told me that it wasnt Jamie winning at Dega last year because his car was black not red.

LOL, show him all Jamies wins. Think he's won in the french fry car too. Build a fan!

I'll give it a 7, better racing, but I think if there had been no rain delay we would of seen a lot more follow the leader racing until about 50 to go. Seeing Jr so excited and pumped up was a welcome sight, it was a good win for him and he got some awesome restarts at the end. It was typical plate wreck fest there towards the end or I would of given it a higher rating. Gongrats Jr!!

8.5 from me......I really enjoyed it after it got started.....and nice to see Junior excited!

Yeah I am sure I can find one. I knew he would go red because he is obsessed with that color lately. It was cool to see him organically find a car he liked.

They actually did that from 2007-2009, I can't recall why NASCAR decided to shift back to the early afternoon start after that. Even though the race has been scheduled for a 1pm-ish start since 2010, 3 of the 5 Daytona 500's since have ended at night, in 2010 because of the potholes and in '12 and '14 because of rain. Might as well go ahead and push the start back to 3:30 or so.

Excellent race and fine way to start off the 2014 season  I give it an 88

Give it an 8. One of the better restrictor plate races with plenty of passing but seeing so many good cars taken out in big wrecks is a spoiler.
Good to see Dale. Jr., win the 2014 Daytona 500! Congratulations to him and his entire crew.

I was very worried about the aero changes made to the car by watching the Speedweeks coverage. Seems Nascar got it correct. Probably one of the better races in years. Give it a 9 out of 10. As far as coverage goes, all I can say it's time the Waltrips disappeared from TV. From pre-race in a regular suit to sitting for more than 6 hours in his driver suit so his sponsor will get any air time Mikie needs to go. Darrel with his Junebug comments and just grasping to stay around the sport that passed him by as a driver long before he retired.

Best stock car race I've seen in a long time.
Just leaving room in case Danica wins at Bristol :)
