Rate The Race: Bristol

Race: Can't say because I didn't see any "racing" on the ESPN telecast.

Finish: 9 (wish Mark had won, but WTG Shrubby:beerbang:)

ESPN:  What more is there to say that hasn't been said already?

This is crazy as I'm sure this race will be one of those that some love and others hate. I will give it a 9, much better than others since the redo.

Did ESPN turn what used to be one of the most exciting races on the schedule into a single file parade?

I must have missed what you saw. Maybe I was getting a beer during those times. What I saw back in the pack was a lot of double wide, sometimes three wide racing and I once saw four wide. Much more of that and I will say it's about as exciting as those big packs at Daytona and Taladega.

i thought it was a very good race. lot of passing without wrecking people, though there was that too. mark showed what a class act he is by racing kyle hard and clean for the finish. hope kyle took note and realizes you don't always have to win to be a winner.

That''s the problem with the new Bristol. Since it's multiple grovves, and much harder to pass one, you get lots of side by side racing, but no bumper tag and flaring tempers. So the people that like Bristol because it was a Saturday night, bang-em-up racing, just don't like it anymore.

I was there and passing with 2 and 3 wide racing was all over the place. I'll give it an 8.

We didn't get to see all of that. ESPN was too busy showing us one car while getting us "Up to Speed, presented by Nationwide insurance"

I dunno, I saw quite a bit. Granted, they do take for ever the "up to speed" segments, but ovreall, they did show racing throughout the field. Personally, I think your hatred of ESPN runs so deep, that they couldn't do you right no matter how well they did.

Really don't know what kind of a numberical rating I could give but it was a night race and I didn't fall asleep. That's gotta count for something. huh?

Totally Agree

I saw SOME multiple wide racing. Mostly because the camera guys were waiting for them to wreck everytime they got 3 wide. I did like the shot from the camera over the end of the track. But it would be nice if they didn't profile the same cars over and over.

What race were you watching? In fact, there was lots of 3 and even 4 wide racing. Also, I didn't know it was possible for the TV station to force the cars into a "single file parade." Does this mean that Fox can force interceptions in the NFL now?

Andy is such a troll. I actually thought ESPN did a fairly good job covering this race. Better than the last few weeks at least. But Andy will find fault in anything. Every week he's complaining about ESPN. It wasn't too long ago that he was saying TNT sucked too.

Anyway, I'd give the race a 9.

There was a long green flag run in the middle where Mark lead the entire time that was a little boring. But the last 100 laps were great. Great duel between Mark and Kyle too. Glad to see them race clean.

In my time I have been to a few races!

Like most here when my GUY is just running around in circles...even if he is leading.. I look around the track and find the cars that ARE racing.. No matter to me who the drivers are, if they are neck and neck, I watch them instead of MY GUY!
To me, our problem with the telecasts is, the castors have no idea what we would be watching if we were at the race.
It must be the lead guy in the TV truck that decides what to put on our screen.. It is obvious to me THAT guy hasn't a clue about racing..
I think the race was an 8.5.
Betsy:rolleyes:

We certainly have a tough crowd here. I would have to rate the race a nine. There was a lot of three wide racing and even four wide a couple of times. The old track never, ever came close to the racing this past Saturday.

I am tired. It has been a long weekend and I am going to bed. :beerbang:

I have been down on the "progressive banking" that they changed Bristol to. As a whole I think it ruined Bristol, but the Double file restart made the racing a lot more interesting. It wasn't leaders trying to get around the lapped cars like old Bristol, but leaders challenging leaders at every start. Possibly the best track for the double file restart.

I watched it this morning without the benefit of the 48 scanner :( but had already read a blog or 2 and Twitter. I think it was a great race and I'll give it a 9:D. ESPN not so much, I knew it was a more exciting race than they presented on TV, they've done worse but it could have been so much better. I agree with Betsy if my guy is not being challenged I watch who is it's like the Producer/Director have never watched a live race as a fan and they don't know what to show us. Or they have been given an agenda/script and are not suppose to divert from it.

Heres an idea!!

You know those camaras the pit crew has on their helmets? Why not put one of those on each of the guys in the booth? Whatever they look at is what we see on the TV? I know for sure they ain't looking at the very back or very front of some car running closely near another one.. Or looking at one of the drivers FEET! Or even a small varmit jumping into a hole in the track..
Or another idea...Put Rusty in the truck and give HIM complete control of the TV screen!! We do need more racer input in what is shown to us. We, the real fans, are missing a lot of the race.
Betsy:rolleyes:
