Rate The Race: Darlington

9!! One of the best of the year! Helluva comeback by the 11

The 78 having a flat cost us an epic finish imo

A good drama with having to make up a huge deficit, a good pure drama unmolested by BS cautuons.
The flying 11a truly great throw back.
A victory lane interview on the front stretch like it should be.
All great stuff.

7.5 pretty good stuff, this is a hell of a track, the challenge of this place is so clear and obvious, you can see the struggle. Good races all weekend, I can't complain.

I rate a 6 I guess, primarily for the late strategy and suspense, but also helped by the retro looks and discussion. Most of the race was difficult to hang with as cars spread out quickly.

After thinking about for a while now, 7

6 for the race part, but the costumes, cars, throwback announcing and the hooplah 10. Great crowd, I bet they had a good time.

10 out of 10

Factors:

  • MTJ up until the last few laps.
  • KuBu was in the mix, which was nice to see.
  • THE THROWBACKS!!! Where do I start?
  1. I had a Bobby Allison sighting...
  2. then Richard Petty got out on track and can now say that he is the only racing driver to be black flagged in 2017 despite not competing in any series. :)
  3. The paint schemes were amazing. Denny, you suck :p, but you were clutch and you became the first throwback driver to win the Southern 500. Finally.
  • Watching Kevin drive like a madman was fantastic.
  • The throwback commentators were good and bad, if you guys follow my meaning. *cough* THE MEXICAN *cough*
  • Pit strategies and five-six drivers virtually having a shot to win here had me on the edge of my seat.
  • I may or may not have bumped up my personal rating of this race due to amusing circumstances and people surrounding me while watching. :p
  • Lastly, it's Darlington. It's hard for me to fault this track. Ever. I know many people consider the Daytona 500 the biggest race of the year... well then, the Southern 500 has to be the most prestigious. :)

A solid three. I only rate it that high because of Hamlin's driving at the end. If watching a freight train is someone's idea of a good race I just don't know what to say.

Maybe Toyota is sand bagging to make up 20 seconds on the last run of the race. It no wonder everyone else is getting beat

I don't think I can rate the race objectively so I will pass for now. I really enjoyed seeing and hearing Ned but the nincompoops in the booth and the overall race quality really hurt things for me.

The stupid throw back stuff makes it a ****show--the paint schemes are overdone now as well. Keep it to a few, and let's cut the other crap. Don't see the NFL broadcasters going to period correct attire during their throwback weeks.

Toyota struggled for results early, got better, and is now the benchmark. This is what you are supposed to do. Any bitching is either Toyota hate, or your driver/team/manufacturer is getting its ass kicked....but I am enjoying it.

This proves it. You Are kybu. That's almost exactly his response to questions about it.

7 only because it was Darlington!
Not that good a race.
