If there's one single track on the NASCAR circuit that really illustrates the differences with quality of racing between the old car and the new car, this is it.

Richmond used to almost always be known for barn burner action. But, every race at Richmond since Spring 2007 has, for the most part, sucked ass.

As for the rating, 3 and that's being generous. I hardly consider several wrecks in the middle of the race "good racing". It was awful for the first 250 laps, then 100 laps of carnage followed by 50 more laps of awful.

This is some of what MRN was saying during the broadcast:

Usually we see a lot of side-by-side racing, and close racing here at Richmond. That has not been the case tonight.

This is really a bizzare race at Richmond. Long green flag runs and a really strung out field...

For those expecting to hear about beating and banging short track racing, that has not been the case tonight.

The best battle on the track is for 27th position between two cars that are one lap down.

The lap times have really given off a bunch tonight, and we see where cars are seperated by seconds instead of carlengths.

Goodyear and NASCAR brought a new tire to try to adjust to a changing track.

Rockingham placed sealer down and it made the track slicker but it made the racing better, maybe Richmond should consider doing the same thing.]

These guys have just settled in and are riding around, really nothing of interest going on in the track so we'll check in the pits (followed by a TNT-style through the field update on every car on the track)

Then MRN mentioned all the wrecks, in which Joe Moore stated that a lot of good cars that could challenge Kyle Busch were taken out.

After the big wreck, the racing sucked again and MRN continued their on air mauling of a ****ty product.

So, since 2007, NASCAR (and Bruton Smith) have ruined: Richmond, Bristol, Daytona and Talladega.

Honestly, Martinsville and Pocono are the only tracks putting on good races consistently anymore... I've always liked Pocono but the racing has just gotten better there with the COT.

I disagree with you completely on Pocono, I honestly dont understand why you love that place so much, but whatever.

I will give Richmond a 7 simply because its nice to see Vickers get a top 10 at a short track.

I guess I didn't miss much while I was watching the Modified at Bowman.

First 270 laps = horrible bore
Next 50 laps = guys racing like idiots, big wrecks
Final 80 laps = pure ****

I've NEVER heard MRN criticize a race the way they did. I've heard them not be able to find racing on the track and update the pits but I've never heard them lambast a product the way they did tonight.

To each their own. I could write a list of classic races from that place longer than the dead sea scrolls.

I just can't believe how awful the racing at historically great tracks has been this year.

**** Brian France.

Missed the race but nice to see Kasey up front:beerbang:

I'll give it a 5. I saw the first 200 laps live, then had to make my way out.

Was hoping for exciting racing upon my return only to watch a big wreck on the backstretch and long green flag "racing" to finish the event.

Lol @ FOX trying to stir something up between Newman and Montoya on air after the race. Newman was evasive and Montoya simply declined an interview. Nice try, though.

I think that was because Ryan said he'd take care of Montoya after the race.

I'll give it a 6. It did have some good racing, at some points.

i don't generally rate races but i did go out for about an hour during the race to play with the dogs. very nice. :)

i still love the short tracks.

i believe the problem is the mind set of the teams and racers. most everyone has come to realize that the first 400 miles are for making adjustments, testing pit strategy, and staying on the lead lap.

nobody runs away and hides any more. throw in the lucky dog and the wave around and suddenly the benefit of putting as many as possible a lap down isn't quite worth the effort.

throw in the short track sideshows of newman/montoya, jimmie driving like landon cassill, truex's move on that restart followed by pit failure, the mess in the backstretch because a bunch of great drivers decided it was time to go all at the same time...

and then there is the fact that best car and driver on this night got the win.

to me it beats the hell outta restrictor plate lottery races.

sidebar: SpeedPagan-live racing at a legendary track will always be better than what nascar's major league has become. only thing that could make it better was if it was a dirt track!:beerbang::D

I thought it was a fairly decent race. Sure, there were some strung out portions. But every race (minus restrictor plates) has that. I'm giving it a 7.

As far as sealer, Richmond used to put down sealer about every year. They haven't done so in the last 4-5 years. I don't know why they stopped doing it except for a cost-cutting measure.

Can't rate it as I didn't watch much, but a guy at work goes to every race there, and said it was the worst he's seen.

Once again Richmond illustrated why Nascar needs to shorten races, although better than a Plate race it still lacked a lot. I'll give it a 4.

If I remember correctly the sealer was put on to stop the weepers after rain storms. Once the track was re-paved in 2004, I think that problem was eliminated, so sealer wasn't needed again.

Wow, I guess once again I watched a different race then most everyone else on here. I guess TV just can't do the races justice. It was a good race as always @ this short track. Good racing all around the track.
