RATE THE RACE: Sonoma

I normally love the road races, but I didn't care much for this one. Very much a sub-par race. I'll give it a 5.

I actually watched all of the race and didn't fall asleep. So that has to be worth a 7. I thought the announcers did just enough to keep me interested without beating the obvious to death.
My main complaint was they kept the camera too long on JPM showing us his fantastic footwork. I've never cared much for that kind of stuff. Preferring instead to see the cars on the track.

I with you there. I can't stand the specialty cameras, I think they're used too much. They can be good for a replay or if there's nothing goin on on the track, but they all rely on them too much, and the viewers are deprived of racing.

But, but wait, these productions aren't for the fans, it's for other production companies to show who's got what, who's done what, and who's got the better direction. They've been doing these things since Moses was a pup and it doesn't matter how much criticism they get, they are all singing to the choir and not the congregation.

Yeah, but we can still complain:mad:

I'll counter all 3 of you.

While, yes, they spent a few too many seconds on that camera, I think it tied in well with the transmission technical period in the prerace (or whenever it was). Transmissions have been and will be a big issue on road courses. Not having to drive 3 footed has just brought the competition closer together. Now the splitter cam was an unneeded accessory on the 45 car. It shoulda been put on the 42 or 20 or 7, or all 3.

I'll rate the race a 7 and coverage an 8.5.

i was there watching in the stands there was constantly a battle for position i cant help it they only show the top tens guys on the track.

Now that you mention it, maybe the network guys have been listening. It is no longer the Lil'E show like it was just a few years ago. I'm guessing the backlash they were feeling caused them to rethink showing him for a 3rd of the race.

Now, if someone would mention that to the editor of the sport page for the N&O........................;)

This N&O you speak of...what is that? As a State fan I haven't picked up the N&O in decades. Those rat bastards can rot in hell. The fact that McClatchey is cutting their employment 10% is no where near enough. I'd vote for 100%. But, then their sport page generation is going to Charlotte which probably won't be any better as its a Hole town thru and thru...

Hmmm... good parts, boring parts, a few really good parts... I guess I'll give it a 7.

Nope, FOX just showed us Kyle Busch instead.

The statistics show FOX gave more coverage to Kyle Busch than any other driver, even when he wasn't contending.

TNT's coverage has been fair, balanced, and objective.

Once ESPN takes over, it'll be back to the same.

TNT is a breath of fresh air. I think NASCAR should take 4 more races from FOX or 6 races from ESPN (the ones that are on cable) and give them to TNT. Don't care for Weber or Snider, but it's a hell of a lot better than BuschTV (FOX) and DanicaTV (ABC).

This was a weird race for me.. I give it a 5 and i was there as well.. For me it wasnt the same vibe as past years!! First off.. traffic usually is backed up 3 miles before entering the track.. this year only 1/4 mile backed up. Thought that was weird. I actually got kinda chilly being under the grandstands.. who would have ever thought that at Sonoma? When leaving last year it took us 1 1/2 hours to get out of the track facilities.. this year only 40 mins(not complaining mind you)..Wonder if was because of the prices?? But it did seem full soo??? As far as the racing goes.. I was a lil disappointed in the lack of aggressiveness in all the drivers.. seemed a lot of playing it safe. I couldnt see the whole track but i didnt see a lot of passing..not that many cautions and was just kinda humdrum for me. Maybe it was cuz im usually not in the grandstands.. this year i was surrounded but yuppie people with their matching racing attire and not even really caring what was going on.. they were there just to be able to say i went to a nascar race.( i know not all Grandstand ppl are that way.. just in my area they were) Im usually over in the cheap seats with the beer guzzling, hotdog eatin, rednecks that REALLY get into the race.. AWHHH my kind of people..lmao!!!!!!
