Rate The Race: The Brickyard

5. Only thing saving this from getting a lower grade was Kyle wrecking and the somewhat interesting race after that, and I usually don't rate races low
 
6 is what I came up with.
 
I fell asleep post rain delay but awoke just in time for the Truex/Busch wreck. The last half of the race was "interesting" but I'm not sure it was good. I really don't think this race does NASCAR any favors anymore. If it was up to me it would be gone within 3 years IF attendance does not significantly improve. With all that said, it was probably the best Brickyard in several years

Glad most of the race I just had it on mute in the background while I hung out with family. What a waste.
 
7 at least drivers were aggressive (idiots) wish it could of ended under checkers after all that at the end though
 
I going with a 7 because IDK what else to do. It felt like I watched 3 different races and 4 demo derbies plus saw the best 2 cars inadvertently crash out in the same wreck. The clean up crew was like the Keystone Cops and I think I saw more slamming into the back of other cars more than bump drafting at a plate track. And the cherry on top is a much maligned driver hangs in long enough and got the restart of his life and won the darn thing. As much as I would have liked to have seen the 48 win I am glad the 5 got it done.

First half was a 1/10, second half was a 9/10 from an entertainment standpoint, but pretty ridiculous overall.

Cautions take too long, track cleanup takes way too long, drivers know the cars can't race so they are forced to be super aggressive on restarts which causes a lot of unnecessary wrecks, which create even more delays in the action. When 90% of your highlight reel consists of restarts, that's a big problem. And if Nascar is trying to attract the casual fan, there's a good chance if they randomly tune in to the race at any point, it will be under caution or commercial. Not a good look. And start the freakin races at 1:00.

On the bright side, it was great to see KK win, and the second half of the race was certainly interesting to say the least.
 
Got pretty good once Truex and Busch wrecked as they were the two dominant cars. Have to go with 8.
 
Was shaping up to be a boring race but by god when Truex and KDB went out it turned on.

8.5 - Compared to all the other Brickyards I have watched - I was engaged in earnest.
