I give it a solid 9.5/10. Radio was the saving grace. There were parts of the race that looked boring on ESPN and sounded exciting on WFLS.

A little less action than I'm used to at this track, but interesting nonetheless. The bottom line: Kyle Busch can be beat! :)

Hmmm, wonder why such low grades. I thought it was much better than in the past with the new surface. I'll give it a nice 9, even though my boy Kahne in the #9 had a terrible night.

I'll give it an 8.5. That one stretch from around lap 350-450 wasn't much, but that's a typical Bristol race anyway.

People that think the old Bristol was better are nuts and only like the wrecks. Those guys were racing their butts off. That's fun to watch.

That's not necessarily so. The old Bristol was very similar to our local track, Bowman Gray Stadium, in that it was very hard to pass and the chrome bumper was a major part of the racing there. The thing was that in using that said chrome bumper, more ire was raised. As we saw in this race, even when the chrome bumper was used, it wasn't anything like that in the past, yet still raised the ire of the bumpee. The racing definately is different now, but the excitement looks be be approaching the same. But to say that those who loved the old style was nuts is just your opinion and to go further to say that we only like to see the wrecks is just a one sided view. And remember, that track got it's reputation well before the new configuration and I don't think that you believe that all of those people only went there to see wrecks, now do you?

Yup. That's what local short track racing is all about, getting to the guy in front of you and moving him up out of the groove to get by. It don't get any better than that!

9.5. Loved the ending between Kyle and Carl. It would have been interesting to see who would have wrecked who if they were closer in the last 5 laps or so.

You should have seen what happened in the last race of the season last week at BGS. The local thug intentionally took out the leader who not only won the pole position, but led the first 143 laps of 150. That definately ticked off the spinnee and when the checkers flew, the spinnee spun the spinner across the finish line...but wait, there is more! When the spinner car had come to rest, facing the wrong direction (driver to the outside of the track), the spinnee then t-boned the spinner, put the car in reverse and did it again and again before he finally stopped. Both the spinnee and the spinner were escorted from the track by the cops. And BTW, the spinner holds the record for the number of win in the featured class at the track and the spinnee is the defending champion at the track. So you can imagine the number of fans both of those guys have in the stands. While all of that was going on, the new track champ was christened, and now he has the most titles of current drivers. (The spinner WAS tied with 6 titles, but now is only second best.) Can't wait til next year.

Good stuff :D

I thought it was a pretty good race. It was sort of boring when no one was catching Kyle and you had to just see who could get out of the pits fastest. I spent a lot of it cheering Carl on to catch Kyle and when he did, it was great. Then seeing what Kyle did after and Carl going after him, was great. I felt bad for Kasey and a lot of those guys who got taken out because of Mear's stupid spotter, if that was definitely the case. I thought it was a much better race than other recent races and really enjoyed it. I give it an 8.5

Oh, is anyone else ticked that they're giving Casey Mears not only Clint's number, but his WHOLE CREW and sponsor? I think that sucks and it's just wrong. Clint belongs in that car. Clint also had one of the more hilarious radio comments when he was talking about Mikey Waltrip. I was cracking up. LOL I say keep Clint in the 07! Maybe we should start a petition. Casey's a nice guy and all, but Clint is the racer. He deserves better.

I hadn't heard that. Yes, that ticks me off.

From what I read, the decision was made by the new sponsors...Betty Crocker/Cheerios.

So they want Clint to drive Betty Crocker/Cheerios and Casey gets Jack Daniels? Ummm...that's weird to me. Their personas fit just the opposite, although I guess I did read it was because Casey ran Kelloggs. But still, why take ALL of Clint's crew?! His CC doesn't like it and I'm sure the rest of the crew doesn't either. Why do they have to give up his number too? I don't get it.

I don't like Clint going to another car. Thats a sponsor that matches a driver if there ever was on. I guess this will be the last season we see Uncle Jack in the top 10.

from all the fotage and talk about the race, i'd have to give it at least an 8..... and haven't seen it...lol. I'm still kickin myself for not recordin it. But then again, I'm kinda like Buckaroo...... at my local dirt track we had a whale of a show with two guys door to door thru entire heat, got together near end, one spun other won...... then in main, same two ran nearly half the feature (after the one that was spun came thru the field) side by side again..... till turn four final lap...... well the fourth place man won.....lol...... was an awesome night....
can't wait till Richmond tho..... gotta love short tracks...... (where's N Wilksboro when we NEED it????? lol

Most "novice" race fans go to see wrecks and fights. That's what Bristol was built on. Real race fans go to see racing and everything else that goes with it.

I've read many posts on several boards from people that say they don't like Bristol as much because there isn't as much bumping/wrecking.

And yet, I remember very clearly the "old" Bristol --- before concrete. It was a lot like the "new" Bristol. Drivers could run anywhere on the track --- most favored right up next to the wall.

and i can still remember the whisps of tire smoke off the right rear tires of Earnhardt, Richmond, Waltrip, etc...... as they 4 wheel drifted thru the turns..... man those were the days, asphalt and bias-ply tires.......

as for the wreckin and fightin..... that wasn't what I meant in my post..... actually the two duelin for the lead were and still are friends... there was no fussin and fightin, they both chalked it up to hard racin..... gonna put some pics up on my site later this week if ya'll want to see..... got several shots of those two goin at it........ was a great night. Sounds like about the same from Bristol........ but I will say, the deal at the end, and the "Mister Ed" barb, and Carls reponse was classic....... ranks up there with E and Wallace, or E and Labonte.......

Looking forward to the pictures! And yes, Carls response was good. I still say it's time for some new "WWKD" bumper stickers:)

I said the race was fantastic last year. But now, we're starting to see signs of Thunder Valley.

Fewer wrecks, side-by-side racing. Bristol is a lot like IRP, USA International Speedway and Irwindale now. :growl:

Give it another year though. It's really hard to complete a pass at New Bristol, so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more use of the Chrome Horns next year.

Oh, and Kyle? He should've known it was coming. He would've done the exact same thing.

Oh how many times have I seen this written. So you think you know what a real race fan is do you. Good for you. If everyone thought the way that you did, you'd be the only one at the track. We've been down this road many times before so I won't go any further with it.

loving it

Gotta say I love the new Bristol. Alot more side by side racing that I like. But there is still alot of hot tempers due to the tight racing. Congrats to Carl.

Buck they need to bank Bowman Gray like Bristol then maybe there would be more racing and less fighting. Don't know if there was any penalties accessed but if Myers is not suspended for quiet a few races then I think Nascar and Bowman Gray are only promoting the fights and not the racing.

Clint also had one of the more hilarious radio comments when he was talking about Mikey Waltrip. I was cracking up.

Poor ole Mikey. There he was, again, a victim, of circumstance. And to rub salt in the wound, along comes Clint "the new comer" Bowyer making a comment about Mikey and his driving ability.
Who does this upstart Bowyer think he is anyway??

Anything and everything Clint Bowyer said, based on Mikey's past performance, is, IMO, true. The trouble is, Bowyer picked on an incident where Mikey was not guilty of anything other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Mainly, on the track. :D

Banking is totally out of the question...they'll never do it. Myers was not suspended but was put on probation for the entire year of 2009...but so was Junior Miller. Actually, this sort of thing goes on quite frequently at the stadium and does of course, help keep the excitement high there. I've seen any number of the drivers take revenge on another driver. Miller was suspended earlier in the year for doing this to Bobby Hutchens and that is probably why he was also put on probation. As for Myers, not quite sure why no suspension except maybe because the season is over. And one last thing, from what I heard, the penalties weren't made in Daytona, but rather in Winston Salem. If this had happened in the tour races, then Daytona would have acted and did so earlier this year when one of the stadium drivers did the same thing.
