RATE THE RACE: Watkins Glen

What???

Cars stopping on the sixth lap for a splash of fuel so they could be in front on the 80th lap???
Ho-hum is what I watched this morning!!
That race should be in three parts with a winner in each shareing in the purse. The car with the highest average finish would be the winner..
Thataway the cars might race for all three segments. Fuel milage wouldn't be a consideration.
Although I did enjoy the winner having his first win, I still give it about a 2.
Betsy:rolleyes:

Wow! You're tough!

I was gonna say 10+ fersure. But road course racing is my favorite form of racing so I would have given the race an 8 or better on principle alone.

With Daytona and Talladega, I already start with a low score (like a 5 at best) before the green flag even flies.

Different strokes, eh?! ;)

And I thought that ESPN did a very good job today as well. AB is well-informed, well-prepared and is quite obviously a true NASCAR fan - but he is such a dork. :D

Dale and Andy did their usual spectacular job. Maybe the best pair since Benny and Ned!

A 9. Could have been a 10 without that last yellow. Was Ragan trying to deliver a package to Reutimanns window? :D

I'll go a 9.5 for the race. Good battles for the lead.

ESPN gets a 10 for the coverage. It was a throwback to the old days when all you had was 3 guys in the booth talking about the racing.

And DJRossi --- a wreck like that is not spectacular in my book. It's a testament to the safety requirements in the cars that both Davids were able to walk away. I do not like wrecks as bad as that one.

Yeah, way too scary for me. Reminds me of Hornish and Gordon at Sonoma.

Didnt agree with the final caution..... just let the race run.

Wrecks like the last lap ones are not good to see, getting out on own power, thats good to see.

It's amazing how much ESPN's coverage magically improved when they put Allen Bestwick in the booth!

Didn't watch anything all day but the thread here, and the final laps online after I got home, but damn! If you didn't find those last laps exciting, you need to see a doctor!

That was Watkins Glenn as well where Hornish's car exploded. That one, the one today, Michael McDowell wrecked in qualifying a few years ago and the one at Dega (I think it was dega) where Newman landed on his roof, pretty much have scared the **** out of me for the drivers involved.

I'll be honest, they are fun to watch afterwards when you know the driver is OK but I don't like watching it happen live. I caught myself holding my breath until I saw a driver get out.

My heart was really going there after the crash, and I saw the race on dvr. This race had it all. Great battles for the lead, lot's of rubbin, and a first time Cup winner. That's, what, 5 first time Cup winners this year now? Wonder what the record is?

I'll give the race a . . . . .

10!

I used to dislike the road tracks but over the past few years I have grown to love them. I listened to the race on the radio today and then watched it on DVR tonight.

That was a damn fine race and a solid 10.

Grats to Marcos.

Yep. I think it was the same turn too.

That Gordon/Hornish wreck happened coming out of turn #9. Gordon did his best to take down the wall that separates the unused boot section from the rest of the track. They did track upgrades in that section after the wreck. We got lucky that day too.
