The race as a whole...6
The pass on the last lap 10 all the way. I love how Carl could have just run second for points, but drove it off in the corner like it was the last lap at Homestead with the cup on the line.

"I knew I was going to hit the wall..."
Then he referenced how it's done in a video game!!!
A+++++++++++++++++++++++++

I'll give it a 7. It got pretty dull there during the middle, but that finish was fantastic. I just wish Carl had made it work. Guess he better practice on the track and not just on the video game. :D LOL

5.5 For the first time in my life I actually fell asleep during a NASCAR race.

I still say if they paid 50 more points for the win, that sort of thing would be the norm...

It wouldn't have been funny if he'd taken himself out and he'd finished 17th or worse. While some of you and applaud his daring I do hope you realize it was a pretty stupid move to hit the wall on purpose. Ask yourselves, what happens if he doesn't hit the wall? Maybe he wins the race, maybe Jimmie goes back around but either way is a smarter move than what he did.

If he had just grazed the wall instead of hitting it as hard as he did he would have won. As it was the 48 only beat him by what, 3 or 4 car lengths?

He injected something sorely needed in racing today, excitement.

Imagine me, a diehard Chevy fan cheering for a Ford. Now that ain't right!!!

But my ? was, what happens if it doesn't even graze the wall. Doesn't come near the wall. Pulls in front of Jimmie and stays there. Besides at the speeds they're going just how do you intentionally graze the wall. Like graze the wall and rip your valve stem out. Graze the wall and pick up marbles. Graze the wall and run over debris and take down a tire. I still say that was a dumb move - if he did it on porpoise like he said.

I still say kudos to Edwards for throwing in coming to the checkered. If someone deosn't do everything they can to win at the track they most want to win at, then something is wrong.

No, hitting the wall on purpose almost assuring yourself that you won't win doesn't deserve any kudos. How many drivers do this? Or, have done this? What kind of rebound did he think he was going to get from the wall? The pass wasn't a stupid move and if it had stopped there I'd agree with you 100%. But to intentionally hit the wall, he's an idiot.

Edwards

I think it was a very gutsy move. Hes one heck of a driver. If he had been some of the other guys trying to win they might have just banked off of the 48 car for the win. the way he did it added excitement and the 48 & 99 were shaking hands afterwards instead of fist.

I don't think he intended to hit the wall. He said he bombed it in there in order to just barely clear Jimmy. He just came on a little too strong.

But I must admit --- I do appreciate the desire and the willingness to lay it all on the table.

Based on what i'm learning in high speed driving school, had he slowed up about 2 to 4 tenths of a G, the slip angle of the tires PROBABLY would have diminished enough to still be near the wall but bodyslam it.

That said, Dr. Woods pulled 1.8 lateral G's and 2 total G's down at TMS yesterday on 6" wide slicks on the flattrack without breaking loose. Only difference there is we build 400 pounds of downforce at 65 MPH.

Mag, the wider tires they're talking about for next year, won't that make the racing a lot better? We'll see less slipping and better handling as to tight/loose conditions?
