Ratings increase for Daytona 500 Speedweeks

It is not surprising that this year's edition of the 500 eclipsed last year's rain delayed race. The real problem is over 3 million less people watched this year as compared to 2013. A real shock is 6 million less people watched this year compared to 2006. That is a boat load of people who are doing something other than watching Nascar.

It wasn't rocket science, they devoted more programming than last year and on top of that their race shows were better. the Danica pound fest probably helped also..nothing like a good fight and plenty of wrecks.

Perhaps the TMZ aspects of the elder Busch brother's personal life brought some eyes to the broadcasts.

Trained assassins, naked sobbing, bloody articles of clothing ... stuff like that.

Or not ...

But, the 2014 ratings drop was blamed on the Chase, not on the rain delay.

:idunno:

One race does not tell the story.

That's great that people tuned in last week but its one thing to check out the season opener which by itself should since its the first race in like 3 months. But can they keep the ratings high throughout the whole year? They haven't been for years now. They're not tearing down stands at certain tracks for dramatic effect.

To be fair, they built tracks too big during a boom period that they thought would last forever. NASCAR is kind of like pro wrestling in that most of society sees it as fringe entertainment that they'll tune into for when it's "popular" but as soon as any social stigma returns, they run away.

NASCAR (like pro wrestling) will never escape its stigma as redneck entertainment.
