Ray Evernham leaves ESPN, takes on larger role at Hendrick Motorsports

As often the case is, the fantasy is better than the reality.

Jeff nor Jr will never be dominant in the future even with him as the CC. It would be better for Ray just to Nevernham again.

Lest the faithful become more brokenhearted and filled with greater travails, bitternest, heartache, angst, agony, woe, saddness, grief (plus all the other superlatives), and despair.

But as futile as it maybe he will try. It will be a trajedy. His coming back and ultimately failing, will make them wish they had never been borne, and finally to curse their own parents over their wretched existence.

But friends there is a silver lining or a consolation. Non Gordon and non Junior fans already wish Gordon and Junior fans had never been borne along with cursing their parents too. Now we are one, and have a common bond.

I always knew there was a God. :)

I agree with all that Greg, but you shouldn't worry about it. Ray will never be a CC again. He's said as much.

IMO Ray would be a good choice to run HMS when Rick retires.

Haha, good one.

He would ruin that organization just like he did his own.

One of the weakest thing you've ever posted.

Ruined it? When was this?

As far as in concerned Ray's team was the reason Dodge came back into NASCAR and he ended up merging & selling. The same way Roush was formed. The only big name drivers he had were an aging awesome bill & then Jeremy dropped the ball. Don't really see how that's Ray's fault. I'm sure rick said "anytime you wanna come back there is a door open for you" and he knew that

Doesn't matter.

When its your team, its automatically your fault.

Ray doesn't strike me as a man who can take an organization and make it flourish.

Call Mayfield a crackhead but he was right in calling him out about giving him poor equipment and not being professional when he got into a relationship with one of his employee. (Erin Crocker)

Good old Ray let his personal life conflict with his work.

Ray is not owner material.

Fixed that for you. ;)

I am the proud parent of a Junior---Dillon fan, some how somewhere I must have failed as a parent but I love her anyway :D

It is ok we all cant be perfect. My son likes Junior too. My best friend the guy who helped me most at preparing for races and at the track likes Gordon now.
We were big Dale Sr fans back in the day too.

I try not to let his Apostasy ruin or friendship.

So it's the Broncos owner's fault that they lost the superbowl? Nothing to do with the coaching staff (crew chief) or the players (driver & pit crew).

Seems legit.

Got news for you, anybody with money can own a team.

The Broncos argument doesn't work because they had the best record of the regular season and made it a game short of winning a championship.

A better example would be the Detroit Lions. The Lions have sucked almost the entirety of the time that the Ford family has owned them. They keep bad head coaches and GM's (Matt Millen) too long, even when they're terrible.

Evernham owned the Dodge factory team for how many years and they did nothing. He is accountable for the lack of performance. The buck stops with him when it comes to hiring drivers, pit crews, crew chiefs and competition director.

You praise Evernham as this miracle worker crew chief (which is probably warranted), then give him a pass for running a terrible NASCAR team from 2001 to 2007.

Sure it is that simple. I reckon Oprah, or Paris Hylton could too.

A lot of good drivers failed as owners. Only a few know how to sustain a team for years, and few if any have ever dominated like Hendrick.

I do not know if Evernham could keep Hendricks strong. As a significant player he has been away for a quite some time. He also has bounced around quite a bit, on to different things.

An owner also has to be the type that can hire and fire with a certain disconnection to his personal feelings. I am not sure Evernham is the type.

You Gordon fans are starting to remind me of Chicago Cubs fans, lol.

Even if Evernham is dubbed owner one day, I'm sure Hendrick has enough people in place that if Ray were to contemplate a negative decision his personnel would steer him in the right direction. Or left direction

I agree with this for the most part (but titled as director or CEO rather than owner).

For example if he were to become distracted by his secretary, there would probably be a board with enough power to reassign her to a satellite team, or impeach him as needed.

My daughter always comes over to watch the races, laughs like a hyena whenever something bad happens to Kyle :( Almost as irritating as Sliced Bieber 22 :D

I hope the Junior fans get their wish and Ray becomes Juniors crew chief, its not like it will help or anything but a HAPPY NATION IS A HEALTHY NATION :headbang:

Maybe all this is a secret plan to eventually get Jr over to Dodge and put Larson in the 88.

Pretty much all that needed to be said on this matter.

I loved Ray as a crew chief but as an owner, he bit more than he could chew.

Didn't you once say it would be Jeff Gordon? lol

So? Gordon has a clean slate to try while Ray did and failed.

Not saying Gordon would fair any better but at least he gets the benefit of the doubt if he did.

Because Jeff has been a driver in the Cup series makes him a good candidate to rum HMS when Rick retires?
I don't think so.

Look at it this way, at least Ray knows what not to do now. lol
