- Schrader Will Drive No. 30 RCR Car
Winston Cup Scene is reporting that Richard Childress Racing has picked veteran Ken Schrader to drive the team's No. 30 Chevrolet in the 2004 Nextel Cup Series, the Barre-Montpelier (Vt.) Times Argus says. The newspaper doesn't name any sources for its story but says the announcement is expected this weekend. Schrader, a 48-year-old Fenton, Mo., native who has four victories in a full-time Winston Cup Series career that dates back to 1985, has been driving BAM Racing's No. 49 Dodge this year. BAM owner Beth Ann Morgenthau has said her team may not race a full schedule next season if the team can't find sponsorship.(Scene Plus)(11-14-03)

Why would AOL want Kenny at 48 and wouldn't take Ward at 42. Don't make since. Said they wanted a younger driver. :D

They said they wanted a marketable driver. Ward hitting up on the internet does not go over with me as well as Kenny. He could be quite entertaining in promotional commercials.

Kenny can win in good equipment. I have never pulled for a Childress car but, I would sure love to see Kenny win. I think the crowd would go nuts. Now if Jr would put Johnny Benson in the #1 car, that would be cool too.

I'm glad for Kenny. Hope he can make it into victory lane next year. He's a great pic for the sponsors with his personality.

It's not Jr.'s call, sure he could give his opinion, but it all comes down to thersea and ty norris and of course the sponsor.

Also, you have to remember that AOL is only signed for one more year as the sponsor of the #30. It has been said that RCR wanted a driver that would be willing to sign a one year contract. I think that was one of the reasons that Ward didn't sign with RCR.

You said it, i've got my fingers crossed for JB.

although i like Kenny i dont think he can win another race even in a rcr car. he races in the truck series in a good truck and finishes middle of the pack. I think the reason childress is signing him instead of someone else is because its a one year deal with the sponser and i bet next year will be ken's last full year.

He's had good equipment before. He's won four races in 18 years.

Next.

If RCR is having this situation with the 30 car, a sponsor thats goin to leave in 1 year, no young driver willing to sign. I say they should just scrap the ride and focus everything on the 29 and 31.

i dont think that its a matter of a young driver not willing to sign. i think they havent pursued anyone young for the ride.

They probably haven't pursued a young driver for a few reasons. Most importantly, no one would be willing to make the jump from a well established busch or truck team to one year sponsorship deal...even if it is with RCR. Secondly, they may be planning on a bigger sponsor for 2005 and THEN they'll go for a young driver to start a "new" team. Unfortunately, AOL hasn't had the best luck on the circuit and I can understand why they're pulling out. They should start with a young talented guy and let him work his way up Childress has the cash to do it. It'll be great to see Schrader in a well sponsored car, with his personality he may be able to keep AOLhanging around...maybe the new team with revitalize his driving. Who knows.

I think originally back in 2001 AOL was going to be Kevin Harvicks sponser. Because i remember he had to drive an aol car a few times as part of a sponser deal in 2001.

Sounds like quite a few people jumped the gun on this one.

#30 Driver? UPDATE Sauter signed? hearing the #30 AOL RCR Chevy may be driven in 2004 by Johnny Sauter? Not sure how this would effect his Busch ride in the #27 Brewco ride...if it happens.(11-19-2003)
UPDATE: hearing RCR and Brewco worked things out and Johnny Sauter has signed to drive the #30 AOL Chevy in 2004.(11-24-2003)

Makes sense. He's RCR's kind of driver. Dirty, hotheaded, and overrated.
