Before RCR fans have a cow, no Richard is not selling. However it looks more and more likely that if you have $$$ (or your dad does) you can buy yourself a ride. Last year I gave Richard the benefit of the doubt when he hired Menard, because I really think Menard has paid his dues and is a decent enough Cup driver deserving of a decent Cup ride. Then I see this:

Look, I don't mind Gaughan as being a Truck series driver, but he is way out of his league in Cup. There should be no reason a high profile team owner like Richard would go after Gaughan. The only reason here is obviously $$$$$.

welcome to nascar. the costs to be competitive have gone too far. sponsors leaving.

you want a ride? bring a sponsor with deep pockets. talent is optional.

seriously...this isn't a new concept.

unfortunately there are a bunch of start and park drivers that would do far better behind the wheel of the good equipment the new breed of rent a ride racers are getting to race.

RCR's been a Rent-A-Ride team for a while. They hired Tim George Jr AND Paul Menard.

Agreed AML...RCR has been struggling for money and has been snatching at any driver with a rich Daddy. It's basically a "pay for play" team at this point - except for the top guy.

IMO it's sad to see...the DERacing split with RCR tore the guts out of RCR.

Oh well...survival of the fittest.

It's getting that way in just about all of the racing organizations.

Na$car racing is no longer a "true" sport, it has involved into a business, a very expensive business.
Anyone of us could get a ride with just about any team (if there was room for another car) if we walked in and plunked 20+ million down.

well if anything with that nice black & gold scheme, the car will look good going around the track...

A guy getting a ride because HE is the one with the sponsor is nothing new. Been going on for a long time.

yeah, it's going to be that way for a while...The teams and NASCAR did this to themselves tho

I agree ..nothing new here .We all know that this is a sponsor driven sport. In fact , aren't all pro sports ..sponsor driven ?Get the costs back down under a million per year , that'll fix it . There won't be any trouble getting a hundred cars to show up for qualifying , and plenty of sponsors too.

Good to See a New sponsor coming into Cup and a driver whos been around the lower series for awhile getting a shot at proving himself!

Yes, year before last. On his daddy's dime. Didn't do good at all.

He pretty much matched that teammate he had. Of course, I guess that isn't really saying much. ;)

What ever the reason that he is there, I wish him well. My wife, kids and & met him once @ Dover signing autographs. Needless to say, his line wasn't long. We got in line and he signed a few things for us, spoke with the kids a little and we were on our way. That in itself not too big a deal. What I was impressed with was that more than a couple hours later we were heading back to the track from the parking lot after doing some tailgating. On our way back in a golf cart came riding up by us. It was Brendan and his PR person. He stopped us to say hi and remember each of us by name and continued a conversation that we were all having earlier. I was surprised that he still remembered us as all. Sure, it doesn't say much about him as a driver but he seems like a good guy. Then again, I've never been around him when he's beat his dog or anything. :D

He's run one full year in cup for Penske and at his age now, I don't see much happening for him but good on him if it does.

Sounds like he is a nice guy or maybe he follows this forum and recognized you ;)

I understand that it has been this way for a while now, but usually was only happening in the lower ranks. How long before Kevin Conway is driving the 33 Extenze car?

Sadly that's very true. My friend Andy tells me it's that way even in the local scene. He won't give a driver a ride unless he can bring in either a sponsor or pay for the tires and parts.

I have a feeling this was always true.

How many guys have their rides paid for by family in NASCAR today?

Paul Menard
Parker Klingerman ?

Is it all that big a deal, really? If I had the means to do the same for my son/daughter and that was their desire and they were qualified, I wouldn't hesitate to get something in the works for them. You can debate their qualifications, at least as far as Klingerman goes but Menard? How many combined Cup wins do all of us here @ racing-forms.com have?

Im not saying it in a bad way. Im just wondering what guys have their rides paid for?

There are a couple of Dillon boys coming up that might get the coveted Childress Wines sponsorship.

Oooooooooo. I live near a huge wine trail. Where people come from hundreds of miles away to travel this trail to sip wine and to see how many cases they can fit in their sport sedan. You should see how much wine a guy with a small audi convertible can fit into the rear seat. It's amazing.

Although they do drink a lot of wine, they are never wearing anything that says, Im a NASCAR fan.

Wow I thought everyone had forgot about BuckShot!
He was a rambunctious little sparkplug that had daddys money. I loved the run ins he had with Randy Lajoie and Todd Bodine. I was at Bristol for a Busch Series race and Randy spun Jones out during one of their many heated run in's. Buckshot, just like Days of Thunder came out of pit road and rammed Lajoies car. It was awesome.
