RCR to scale back to two teams? UPDATE - Statement: There is speculation that Chevy team owner Richard Childress may have to cut back to a two-car operation next season, if the Shell [#29-Harvick] and Jack Daniels [#07-Casey Mears] sponsorships are not renewed. Childress says he intends to have four Cup teams again next year, but conceded sponsorship issues remain to be resolved. Childress, through the Winston-Salem law firm Womble, Carlyle, has filed legal papers over what he says is GM's non-payment of a bill of $2,538,750. Childress insists he's not suing GM over its failure to make that payment due June 15th. That bill would apparently be a scheduled quarterly payment, part of a $10 million a year Chevrolet sponsorship for Childress' four-team operation.(

Based on the way Harvick and Mears are running, I wouldn't be surprised if both of them are out at the end of the year. Harvick hasn't won a race since 2007... and Mears' one win was a stroke of luck.

UPDATE: The following is a statement from Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing regarding allegations that RCR has filed a lawsuit against General Motors: “I would like to set the record straight that RCR has NOT filed a lawsuit against General Motors and I do not appreciate anyone suggesting otherwise. As is standard practice in bankruptcy proceedings, RCR has made a filing which is common among creditors in these situations. As previously stated as recently as this past weekend in Sonoma, RCR is proud to be associated with General Motors and we are working closely with them during these difficult economic times.”(RCR)(6-23-2009)

No, he's not suing GM, as he said this is a normal thing in a bankruptcy. GM can not pay anything without the courts approval, and the court will not approve any payment unless the creditors file the proper paperwork through the court.

Maybe Harvick becomes another owner/driver in the cup series if he can't land another ride?

You know, I like Harvick but let's be real for a minute. He's 33 years old, and he's probably accomplished everything he's going to accomplish in NASCAR. He's won Daytona, Indianapolis and 2 Nationwide titles -- that's more than most drivers will ever achieve. I'm not saying he should retire, but I don't see where an owners going to hire him with some of the up and coming talent swimming in the talent pool. Guys like Parker Kligerman, Stephen Leicht, Sean Caisse, Trevor Bayne and James Buescher are going to be a much more profitable draw than Harvick.

Honestly, the reason I became a Harvick fan is the same reason I've become a Kyle Busch fan -- Harvick used to be a punk who bragged when he won and got pissed if he lost. Now, he's just another vanilla driver with no personality.

In Harvicks defense i wouldnt call him vanilla he just isnt finish at the front for people to hear what he has to say. I have always like Harvick but i think he needs to leave RCR and i think Tony Stewart might pull out a third car for a guy like Harvick. He would fit in well there but its up to Tony.

I was just thinking the same thing man.

Harvick could fund a Cup ride out of pocket. But, I'm sure Hershey's would go with him, especially if it's to a team like SHR. And I'm gonna throw the prediction out, sponsors will be attracted to SHR like a fly when Smoke wins the 2009 championship.

This was also on Nascar Now last night , said the same thing.

I think Harvick stays right where he is, like I said in the past the likely candidate to go to Stewarts' team IMO would be Kasey Kahne. Tony likes Kasey and was very impressed with the way he drove at Sonoma on Sunday.

Substitute Lil'E's name there and let me know how well it fits...

BarelyPure, that is so true about LIL E. If you did not see Harvicks name you would have thought he was talking about him.

The only suttle difference is that Happy still cares and he's still passionate about the sport,Dale jr. looks like he's forced to go racing every sunday like damn do I really have to race today. RCR wants a youth movement I could see Bowyer staying,Burton has gotten stale the "points" racing has kinda wore out its welcome and thats what Burton has thrived at,Mears just stinks time to face it,hes not good. I could see Bowyer going back to the 07 and Dillon eventually in the 33,JD loved Bowyer when he was in the 07 switching Mears to that car was just plain stupid. Harvick should find a ride maybe he goes to SHR. SHR a four team operation? WOW

guess i missed the races where Jr.'s attitude was anywhere near busch's or harvick's. in fact Jr.'s attitude is almost the exact opposite. i do believe busch and harvick are better drivers and part of that i attribute to their take no prisoners attitude. Jr is a lot of things (or not) but he's never been a punk.

think BP means that JR has 2 busch championships. Daytona 500. And a few more to his credit. So why not go out early before you make ur self look too bad.

Ain't that the truth. I loved it when he and Biffle were going at it. Good stuff.
