After 2 races, can anyone tell who it's going to be?

Well as much as I hate it, you cannot beat aginst Jimmie J. After winning today in a dominating fashion, the seems to be Bulletproof Lowes team seems poised. "Father time" is making a run at it, jumping out of the rocking chair with a win and a runner up. Will the geriatric hero have enough in the Metamucell jar to steal one from his teamate. I really believe the the real battle will be for who finishes third. Montoya is running well as is former Champ Busch. Where did you go Tony, you need to pick it up man.

I'd say the contenders will come down t 48, 5, 42 and 14. 2 and the 24 might be in the equation as well. Don't see any of the rest having a shot at all.

Mark, Jimmie and Montoya. Stewart's been decent but I think you're going to have to have top 5 finishes every week to win the championship.

Since luck plays in to it (Talladega, which shouldn't be in the Chase because it's a track where you have to be lucky instead of good), Jimmie will win it all.

Yea, Roush is off the map and Kyle is doing his self destruct during the chase thing. I see the championship being decided between the 5, 42 and 48 with the 14 being the dark horse.

I'll take that bet. Tony is just getting warmed up. JJ and Mark will struggle at Kansas. Dega will change the entire picture....

It's really time for the tracks on the schedule for the Chase to be mixed up. So many of them are Johnson's "good tracks." It's like they hand it to him every year just so they can say they have a 4-time consecutive champ. And the fans will go away in droves ................

Yeah, I agree. The 48, 5, and 42 appear to be the strongest contenders . Tony could sneak in though. I am still pulling for Gordon to put a run on.

Kurt will start dropping back in the standings.

Dega could knock any of them out of it.

Yep.

Just that the 42 is even being mentioned here is astonishing. I am a HMS fan but if Gordon can't get it I wouldn't mind JPM getting it. Sick of the same o same o with JJ.

I would like to add, that (at lteast according to espn today) the Dover winner has never gone on to win the cup. Hope that holds true this year:D

TU!

:beerbang:

I have nothing against JJ but enough is enough.

I used to ask the wife why she hated Jeffy so much. Her answer was because he was so dominant. I told her she was nuts. Today she asked me why I disliked Jimmie Johnson so much because I liked him when he was a Busch driver. I told her that I disliked him because he is so dominant.

Such is the life of a NASCAR fan.

Day or night, Dega in July would be miserably hot, which is why it's no longer run that part of the summer....

Good greif is it ever hot. I took in two of those July races, and I am going to tell you it was some kind of HOT! Hotter than two rats making love in a wool sock!!! I agree that 'dega needs to be taken out of the Chase because it is too much of a wild card for the Chase drivers. Anything can happen at the other tracks, but 'dega style racing can make or break the Chase for a driver or drivers. I also agree that the Chase races needs to be shaken up a bit, and throw in a dang road course for _hit_ and giggles.

Jimmie J is the man to beat. Only the combo of a bad 'dega finish and a mechanical failure will keep them from number 4. I think Montoya is the wild card like Bowyer was a few years back. He will have to win and finish in the top 4 the rest of the way out. I really hope either Mark pulls off the Greatest Championship run since Kulwicki did it in '92, or Tony regains some of his early year muster for number 3.

I'd say that the contenders are: Martin, Johnson, and Montoya.

Gordon and Stewart might be considered dark horses, but both have been inconsistant. Especially Stewart lately. This was his first top-10 since he won at The Glen, and he was lucky to finish where he did today. He's going to need a major shot in the arm to get back into contention.

You don't want to go to a race at Talladega in JULY been there and done that.

Then maybe they don't need two races.

I know people love plate racing, but it's a game of chance and it's not racing and it shouldn't be in the Chase.

 Oh please don't say that.
Let's get rid of some (or all) of the cookie cutter tracks

Daytona and Talladega might be a game of chance while they use restrictor plates, but at least they produce close finishes with lots of passing.

Get rid of the boring tracks with multiple races (Pocano, Michigan, Dover, Loudon, etc) before we start talking about taking 'Dega out of the Chase.

The 48 is still the one to beat. After that, it's the 5, 14, 24, 42, 2, and 39. The Fords are struggling and the others don't seem to be putting up much of a fight.

Johnson will win the next two championships. It won't change until there are changes to the points system AND the Chase schedule. Jimmie and Chad have the Chase tracks figured out to a science.

So..... Are you saying that the Chase benefits Jimmie Johnson? Or, is it just that he's the best out there right now? Seems to me that these guys are all driving at the same track each week. Maybe some of these other teams need to step up their game.

Two out of three years, if they hadn't had the Chase, he wouldn't have won the championship.

The Chase absolutely benefits Johnson.

As far as best driver, what happens if you put AJ Allmendinger in the 48 car and Johnson in the 44?

It can't be any more simple than the driver that does the best over the final 10 races wins the Chase. He did the best and he won. It doesn't matter if the Chase didn't exist because it did exist and everyone was racing under the same rules. Everyone has had the same opportunity.

As far as Johnson running in Allmendinger's car..... What does that have to do with anything? If you asking who is the better driver, my vote goes to Johnson. If your simply talking about equipment, nothing has changed. Some drivers have better equipment than others. You'll have that in big time auto racing. Heck, you'll even have that in little time auto racing.
