Realtree/Marcis/Childress Reunite for EA Sports 500
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (October 1, 2002) - Three names synonymous with NASCAR will reunite for this weekend's Winston Cup event at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Jordan Outdoor Enterprises, Ltd. (Realtree) announced today a one-race sponsorship of the No. 71 Marcis Auto Racing entry, with engine and body provided by Richard Childress Racing Enterprises, Inc.
No, the 60-year old Winston Cup legend will not attempt to make his 882nd career start at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. He'll leave the driving duties up to RCR Busch Series driver Jay Sauter, who will attempt to make his second Winston Cup start this season.
"I'm delighted to see that Realtree is going to be returning to our race program," says Marcis, who has been involved with NASCAR for over 25 years. "They have been such a big part of my life and have always been so loyal to me. I appreciate everything that they have done for me over the years, and look forward to continuing our relationship. Of course, Richard Childress has been a huge help too over the years, providing engines, cars and so much more."
Marcis and Realtree's NASCAR marriage dates back to 1997, when the camouflage retail giant became primary sponsor of his No. 71 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Their association continued until Marcis' retirement this year from racing after the season-opening Daytona 500.
Bill Jordan, president of Jordan Outdoor Enterprises, Ltd., expresses his anticipation for the reunion with Marcis and RCR. "Everyone at Realtree is excited to be teaming up with Dave Marcis, and having Richard Childress' help is icing on the cake. Dave is what racing is all about, and we have always admired his hard work, passion and dedication to the sport. Richard's impact on racing is nothing short of legendary in itself. Add the fact that Talladega is one of the most exciting racetracks on the circuit, and we feel this is a great opportunity to rekindle the long-term relationship all three have had at this great track."
Since his last official start at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Marcis has fielded a car for eight Winston Cup races. Most of his cars have been his own, but this time he will be provided with RCR equipment, including a driver. Sauter, who made his Winston Cup debut at Texas Motor Speedway in April, is anxious to get back in the No. 71 racing machine.
"Dave has always been kind to my family," states Sauter, who started 35th for Marcis at Texas. "He's given us plenty of opportunities to race over the years, whether it be my dad (Jim) or brother (Tim). I'm looking forward to getting back in the car at Talladega. It's always been a favorite track of mine, and having RCR and Realtree aboard only makes the deal sweeter."
Jordan Outdoor Enterprises, Ltd., makers of Realtree and Advantage camouflage, is based in Columbus, Ga. President Bill Jordan, in conjunction with Bass Pro Shops, has created a collection of Realtree camouflage race wear that lets NASCAR fans support their favorite driver. Realtree is also as an associate sponsor on the No. 29 Goodwrench Service Plus Chevrolet Monte Carlo, owned by Richard Childress and driven by Kevin Harvick.
