"The reason we stuck with the Impala is we have two cars within the Chevrolet lineup that have iconic lines: the Camaro and Corvette," GM Racing director Mark Kent said. "We didn't want to take away from forcing that car into a (stock) car that didn't meet our requirements.

"Dodge did a very good job from the front (of the Challenger). But once you get away from the front, it loses all its character. We didn't want to lose the character of the side of the Camaro. That's why we stuck with the Impala, and we continue to work with NASCAR on future models to try to figure out to get more manufacturer identity. They're a very good partner, but based on what we have this year with Nationwide, we're likely to stick with the Impala."

That make a little sense actually. The nationwide COT fits the Challenger almost perfectly whereas the Mustang, aside from the front, looks almost like they are reaching, the Camero would look a little silly. There is only so much stickers can do to make a car believable. It fits the Camry and Impala pretty damn good though, BORING.

I call bs on GM's remark. They already are racing some Camaros in the GT series. And who are they racing against? Mustangs, and Corvettes. JMO but if it weren't for the 2009 Challenger I don't think here would even be a 2010 Camaro. The 1st time I saw the new Camaro on the street I thought I had just seen a new Challenger. The lines of the car are very close to each other. Again JMO but I don't think the new Camaro looks anything like any of the past Camaros on the road today. Also if it hadn't been for the Mustang there never would have been a Camaro in the 1st place.

About 10 years ago i saw a drawing from GM about an "New" retro Firebird and Camaro. But shortly after they were droped. Seems like they started the retro pony cars, but Ford and Dodge beat them to the punch. I love the new Camaro!

I ran that though the "BS to English" Google Translator. Here is how it came out.

The COT is one UGLY CAR. We can't believe that Ford and Dodge agreed to butcher their designs but there is no way in hell we are cutting up our car's lines to look like that piece of crap.

I'm confused.:confused:I haven't seen any changes in the street versions to make it look like the COT.

What a slap in the face to Impala owners that thought that they had something "iconic".

Ford and Dodge did a great job with their cars, the Camaro is just flat out ugly. I owned 5 Camaros when i was growing up, this new version, to me anyway doesn't resemble the old car at all. One possible reason why no Nascar for the Camaro is the fact that the Impala is the mainstay for Chevy and they want to stick with it.

agreed. The 71 style nose...if you can even blindly call it that...is fugly. They claim they followed the 67-69 designs, so where the heck did that nose come from? They should have kept the nose from that window, not from the 71. (and they even managed to butcher that as well).

Who wants to bet that you could put a new-school OEM motor in an old school 67-69 resto, and get better performance and fuel mileage than what they call an "iconic" stock camaro today?

I'm a Chevy guy and I think the Camero is the worst looking of the 3. GM has turned into the slackers of the car industry with the exception of the Corvette. The Impala POS needs to be updated in a bad way, Chevy will hang on to that same boring design for another 10 years while Ford and Dodge are always trying to at least make some sort of effort.

Yep new car is bulky and heavy. I owned a 69 hard top, a 69 convertible, a 71SS split bumper front end, and a 75Lt. The new car just can't compare to the old ones. I wonder how the new one drives? Anybody driven it yet?
