Sprint Nextel to collect old wireless phones at tracks

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Sprint Nextel announced Monday the launch of Recycle for Victory, a wireless-recycling program that benefits a key NASCAR Nextel Cup Series charity -- the Victory Junction Gang Camp -- and at the same time, supports the environment. The program will debut at New Hampshire International Speedway on July 1, at the Lenox Industrial Tools 300.

"Sprint Nextel's Recycle for Victory program demonstrates our commitment to the life-changing work of the Victory Junction Gang Camp," said Dean Kessel, director of Nextel Cup Series marketing for Sprint Nextel. "The program not only aids the environment by helping consumers properly recycle used phones, but also improves the lives of children who fight chronic illnesses and are in need of a daily dose of hope."
The Victory Junction Gang Camp is a NASCAR-themed, sleep-away camping experience that enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by allowing them to perform activities they would otherwise not be able to do.
"We are so grateful that Sprint Nextel has made Victory Junction the beneficiary of such a great program," said Pattie Petty, CEO and co-founder of the Victory Junction Gang Camp. "This will be a great way to raise funds and awareness for the camp, but most importantly, Sprint Nextel will help change the lives of thousands of children for many years to come."
Recycle for Victory helps protect the environment by reducing the number of used, wireless phones that end up in landfills. Donors receive a pre-addressed, postage-paid envelope to recycle their used wireless phones, batteries and accessories, from any carrier and in any condition. Net proceeds benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
In addition, Sprint Nextel's Recycle for Victory will be available at all Nextel Cup Series events at the Nextel Experience, Sprint Nextel's interactive at-track fan destination (Print a shipping label here). Away from the track, Recycle for Victory envelopes will be distributed at the Nextel Racing Experience and Sprint Nextel show-car appearances.
Since 2001, Sprint Nextel's wireless-recycling programs have helped prevent more than 7 million phones from ending up in landfills and raised nearly $4 million for charitable programs.
