It looks as though points were purchased again. A group of former TRG Motorsports investors have purchased equipment from Red Bull Racing as well as the points. Looks like Landon is locked in the show at least for the first five events and probably beyond. Full time ride announced yesterday. Good Luck to him.

They haven't announced who his teammate will be. Anyone have a guesses? Think Vickers will be back?

Only a couple weeks from the stat of a new season and the announcements still keep coming. I don't remember a off season nearly the same as this one.

Landon Cassill will drive in the Daytona 500 for a group of former TRG Motorsports investors who have purchased equipment from Red Bull Racing as well as have the points that organization earned for a locked-in spot in the field, the driver confirmed Thursday.

The 22-year-old Cassill, who has 48 career Cup starts with a best of 12th at Michigan while driving for Phoenix Racing last year, said he has a contract to drive the No. 83 car for the entire season.
The Red Bull energy drink company decided to sell its two-team operation after a five-year run as team owners. Kasey Kahne finished 14th in the standings and Brian Vickers was 25th while driving for the team in 2011.

Cassill said the new team owners, whom he declined to name, will announce a sponsor and team name in the coming days. Cassill and a yet-to-be-named teammate will have the points that Kahne and Vickers earned last year, meaning they will be locked into the first five races this season.

“We’re going to be locked into the Daytona 500, which is really exciting,” Cassill said. “This is a huge opportunity for me. I can’t tell you how excited I am – you know how hard it is to land stuff like this.”

Cassill said former Cup champion crew chief Doug Richert will guide the team and former TRG general manager Harry McMullen will have the same role. TRG Motorsports, which competed but struggled for its three seasons in NASCAR, shut down its Sprint Cup effort in the offseason, and former TRG principal Kevin Buckler is not involved. The new team plans to run the entire 2012 schedule and not start-and-park.

“They’ve shown me how serious they are about going racing and they’ve made it clear to me of their intentions and their passion,” Cassill said. “These guys have dabbled into NASCAR through TRG but have decided they want to do this the right way and be competitive. … They want to make a good impression on the sport and be a positive addition to NASCAR.”

McMullen, who was working out of Randy Moss Motorsports shop in Statesville, N.C., declined comment on the organization’s plans when contacted at the shop last week.
The team will get its engines from Triad, Cassill said.

“There’s a lot of things that are trying to come together in a short amount of time,” Cassill said.
Cassill originally had planned to drive a start-and-park car for Front Row Motorsports when the opportunity with this new team was offered to him.

“[They] gave me the opportunity that if I got a full-time ride, I could take it, which lo and behold happened before Daytona,” Cassill said. “We didn’t hardly expect that. It was very gracious of [Front Row] to give me that and allow me to move on to a full-time opportunity.”
From here.

Saw where they said Kvapil might be his teamate in the #93 (F/N/A #4 with Kasey) :(

AND the AP's Jenna Fryer @JennaFryer is hearing Travis Kvapil could be second driver of the 2nd car [which was #4 with Kahne in 2011, but have heard it'll be #93](2-9-2012)

He seems like a nice kid who's doing it the hard way, because it's the only choice he has. I hope it pays off for him.

Well tehy may not be very smart then:

a couple UPDATES: Speculation is that former Red Bull driver Brian Vickers will be named Cassill's teammate in a second entry.(MRN)
AND II While Harry McMullen will act as general manager of the two-car operation, Cassill could not confirm nor deny that the team will be called BK Racing, a name that stems from Burger King franchisees that are expected to be associated with the deal. Sources said Ron Devine, of Virginia, and Wayne Press, of Florida, two former TRG partners, will be part of the new ownership group. Travis Kvapil has been mentioned as the driver for the team's #93 Toyota. Kvapil could not be reached for comment.(FoxSports)(2-10-2012)

I think this kid has talent. He had some impressive runs in the 51 car, but no great finishes beyond 12th. Not bad for a part time team. To bad he will be in outdated sub par equipment

Gotta wonder..... Apparently Vickers turned the ride down, never to be heard from again.

Perhaps he'll go on to become the winningest driver in NW history.

I read that RB signes all their athletes to personal services contracts. If that's true, and they didn't write in an out like they did with Speed when he asked for a raise, they may still be paying Brian. I really thing RB hurt themselves with all the extra activities they had BV and SS doing. Scott especially seemed to lack focus on why he was there.

The hatred of Brian Vickers is laughable. He retaliates against Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewert, both deservedly, and he is made out to be a POS who always wrecks which couldnt be further from the truth. Kenseth intentionally wrecked Vickers about 5 times last year with no provocation, many of those times Vickers was running up front. Yet no one seems to hold anything against the #17.

Its also equally laughable to say that Vickers has no talent and should go away considering Vickers is 2 years removed from making the Chase, getting a win, and getting 6 poles in 2nd tier equipment.

But they are high on (cough, cough) Landon Cassell , go figure .

I really have nothing against Vickers Vap-O-Rub. He erred in wrecking two top-tier drivers while going for a win but he has always been honest and fair, I think.

Red Bull expected immediate results in NA$$CAR like they got in F1 and Rally Cars. When that didn't happen for them, they pulled out. Europeans don't understand NA$$CAR, I guess...

As for the points thing, I have less of a problem with this transaction, since a new owner bought all of the assets and will use the same number for the car.

That is different from SHR/TBR/HMS buying points for Miss Thang's Number 10.

I wont be missing Vickers and if others do, well, that's their choice to make - just as i've made mine. I have no intentions of justifying it either.

Yeah, When RB bought Renault Racing, and turned it into RB racing, the had or went and got the best in the business. That wasn't the case here in NASCAR
