Red Bull committed to NASCAR; open to 3 teams in 2011: UPDATE: Red Bull Racing Vice President and General Manager Jay Frye told Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway with Dave Moody that there is no truth to rumors that Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz may pull the plug on the team. "There is a huge commitment from Austria to this program," said Frye. "Red Bull came here in 2006 as an owner and a sponsor, and they have done everything right. It's become a joke in our team meetings every month. I usually have to say, `Everything's fine, don't believe the rumors.' I guess it's a compliment that they're talking about us, but it's also bothersome. There is a long term commitment by Red Bull to doing this program," Frye said. "They want to win and compete at a high level. That's their expectation, and we feel the same way. We're still young with a ways to go, but getting a guy like Kasey Kahne -- even for one year -- makes us better. This team isn't going anywhere." Frye also said that options exist for the team to field three Toyotas for Kasey Kahne, Brian Vickers and Scott Speed, if necessary. Vickers is still months away from knowing whether he will be able to return to the ****pit in 2011, and Frye confirmed that the team is still evaluating Speed's performance, before making a final decision on his status for next season.(Sirius Speedway)(8-13-2010)
UPDATE: Although Red Bull Racing might not have a Sprint Cup seat for him next year, Scott Speed said Friday he has a contract with the team for 2011. The team announced Tuesday that Kasey Kahne would drive one of its cars in 2011 but did not say whether either of its drivers, Brian Vickers or Speed, is out of a ride. Vickers has been sidelined since May because of blood clots. He is undergoing treatment for the clots and likely won't know until November if the treatment is successful, whether he can remain off blood-thinners and race again. Speed indicated Friday that he cannot negotiate with other teams about 2011. "I have a contract with Red Bull," Speed said prior to practice at Michigan International Speedway. "It's not like I'm out. I can't even go out and look for other rides at the moment." Red Bull Racing Vice President and General Manager Jay Frye said Tuesday that the organization could possibly go to three teams but didn't confirm that Speed would be in a car in 2011.(Scene Daily)(8-14-2010)
