JGR cars used to show black smoke out the side pipes when under braking, rather than flames. DW used to wonder about it all the time.

EFI came along, and the smoke is gone. It also seems that JGR is off a little. It could be the new TDR/JGR engines, or perhaps they lost something when the carbs went away.

Anyone remember this? A theory or two would be entertaining.

I have a theory on the black smoke, had it for a while. It is interesting that it has stopped since the EFI.

Care to share? I thought they might be using a variation of the J brake to help them on entry. EFI doesn't dump fuel the way a carb does, so effect would be less.

No, the black smoke monster from "Lost" was never really addressed either....

A pilot I know told me that JGR was flying special carb parts out of a small imagineering shop in the woods of nothern michigan.

Small little carb parts. Just a story though. I wasn't there. But the pilot I know ended up chit chatting with the JGR pilots for a while.

Actually JGR lost the white smoke a few years ago . Perhaps you are thinking of Stewart 2.0 who they signed last year but that smoke just stays on the ground.

Next question, please.
