Repaving Begins at Darlington Raceway

Another historical moment took place last week on the hallowed grounds of legendary Darlington Raceway as paving crews began the intimidating challenge of repaving NASCAR’s first paved superspeedway.

The $10-million repaving project includes new asphalt around the entire 1.366-mile oval, concrete pit stalls and a new infield access tunnel underneath turn three. All construction will be completed in time for the Dodge Challenger 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend, May 8 – 10, 2008.

I have never seen a race from there in person, but we stopped by to see it when coming back from our vacation at Myrtle Beach. The history of the place just comes out once you see the track. I'm hoping to see a race from there sometime.

MRM, I had the pleasure of attending a Southern 500. Also got to touch the Lady's Black Dress --- chewed the first layer of skin right off the finger tips. She bites! LOL

I have been to Darlington several times. Love that old track.
