Restart

At one point during the Texas race a caution flag flew.. it was when Gordon and Kenseth had pitted.. well a whole bunch of cars restarted before the leader.. why??

"End of the lead lap" rule. Those drivers had pitted under green, and thus were one lap down when the caution came out. When the lead lap cars came in, they stayed out, and thus were technically on the end of the lead lap. But since you can't pass the pace car, they restart on the lead lap line, in front of the leader. Don't ask me why they do it. I didn't implement this mess. :D

ooohhhhh.. thanks a lot that clears up confusion for my whole family.. no really it does..

The problem rule is the "can't pass the pace car" rule. C'mon! The pace car should pick up the leader and anyone in front of the leader on the track should get to go around and start in line on the lead lap. This rule is assinine!

Every start or restart should have the leader of the race in the LEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. What is the harm under caution for the cars to come around to the back of the field. SHouldn't leading the restart be the benefit of leading the race.

And while there at it they should move the single file restart back to 15 or 20 laps instead of the "9" (I know it is 10 but the busch race confused me). Having all these slow cars to the inside just is just asking for another caution and then you run into the Red flag/finish under caution scenario.

I don't like that fact that restart rule is done in terms of laps, because each track is different. 10 laps at Martinsville is a lot different than ten laps at Watkins Glen, for instance. I think that the rule should be by a percentage, say when 8% or less of the laps are left, they line up single file. Then it would be 40 laps at Bristol, while 16 at Michigan, and 7 at Watkins Glen, and such. That'd be a lot better than a flat 10 laps.

That would be an even better way to do it stridsberry. I just want to see it extended.

Anyone know of the shorts number of laps it to for someone to get a lap back and then go on to win the race? Has anyone got back on the lead lap with say 10 laps to go and then won the race? I recall someone being 2 laps down to come back and win a race, but don't remember who or where.
