Just finished watching this Oscar nominated documentary. I've not seen the other four docs that were nominated, but this one has my vote. For those who don't know what it's about, two filmmakers spent a year embedded with an Army platoon in an outpost in the mountains of Afghanistan. This outpost was named for an Army medic who was killed there...Restrepo. This doc shows nothing but real happenings, with real emotions and real consequences. We never get to see the enemy, unlike Hollywood movies. If you get the chance, watch what our brave young men face when they volunteer to fight for our country. BTW, just today I heard the filmmakers say that since the doc was made, they have revisited the platoon and the men and all but one has re-upped. God bless our troups

It's on DVD, almost rented it the other day, but saw that it was a Documentary and decided to stay away from it. Most documentaries that i have watch tend to be loosely tied together and a waste of time, but i will admit i was intrigued by this one. Might have to give it a try.

Yes, it's a documentary, but it is without comment from the filmmakers or anyone other than the soldiers at the outpost. It begins with what looks like a video from a cell phone of doc Restrepo and then moves forward. It doesn't show any political favoritism or opinions of why they are there. The idea is to show what these guys face on a daily basis. Their emotions from fear to wild. It isn't your everyday documentary.

That's the spirit.......vote from the hip. Those other nominees probably aren't very good anyway right?

Pretty snide remark. But since you seemed a bit perturbed by my "vote", I looked at the other nominees and with the knowledge of what the other ones are, and having read their synopsis, my vote stays the same. May I ask which one you would vote for?

I'm not sure which one I would vote for....I would have to watch them ALL before deciding.:p

lol. I wasn't perturbed. I thought it sounded funny.
